Tell us a little bit about your business.

I’m a Pittsburgh native with over a decade of experience as an open format DJ, serving not only Pittsburgh but also its neighboring regions. My journey as The Rick began by learning from some of the most talented local DJs during my early years. This foundation has allowed me to successfully DJ at 30 to 40 events per year, with a significant focus on weddings.

What makes your work unique?

What makes my work unique is the balance between professionalism, personality, and creating an experience that feels natural. I want my couples to feel relaxed and fully present on their wedding day, not like they’re being run through a scripted production.

There’s only one of me, and I take a lot of pride in that. I intentionally take on a limited number of weddings each year because I believe quality always outweighs quantity. That allows me to give every couple and every celebration the attention, preparation, and energy it deserves.

No two weddings are ever the same, and that’s exactly how I approach them. Part of my job is knowing when the moment calls for elegance and when it’s time to flip the switch and turn the party all the way up. From reading the room to understanding each couple’s vision, my goal is to create a night that feels authentic to you while bringing the right balance of classy, high-energy, and unforgettable moments.

What is your ideal client like?

My ideal clients are couples who value connection and trust the professionals they hire. The best wedding experiences happen when there’s genuine chemistry between everyone involved.

I always tell couples the consultation goes both ways. By the end of the conversation, we should both feel excited to work together and spend one of the biggest days of your lives together.

How do you get to know a couple’s taste in music?

I understand a couple’s musical preferences by engaging in discussions with them and through a comprehensive questionnaire I provide. This questionnaire covers various aspects of their music tastes, taking into account the different settings in which they enjoy music.

How do you motivate guests to get on the dance floor?

Every crowd is different, which is why reading the room is one of the most important parts of what I do. My goal is to create a soundtrack that reflects the couple while also keeping guests engaged throughout the night.

A packed dance floor usually isn’t about playing the “right” song; it’s about playing the right song at the right moment. I focus on building energy naturally so the night feels effortless, fun, and unforgettable.

How would you describe your emcee style?

My emcee style is best described as “less is more.” I use the microphone with intention and keep the focus where it belongs: on the couple, the atmosphere, and the music.

Outside of important announcements and introductions, I prefer to let the energy of the room and the music speak for themselves.
