Tell me a little bit about your business!
Steven Dray Photography was formed in 2010. A line cook by day and a photographer by night and on the weekends, I hustled hard until I could devote 100% of my time to my budding photography business. Shortly after our oldest child was born, I went full-time and have not looked back since.
What makes your work unique?
I’m not your everyday photographer. As a hybrid film and digital media professional, I use my unique, artistic perspective and experience to deliver timeless, classic, and beautiful images to every client. Whether capturing a wedding, family, engagement, or a high-school senior, I strive to deliver legacy portraits that my clients will cherish forever.
What is your ideal client like?
Easy question! They are in love and aren’t afraid to show it. Many times, clients say they are not photogenic but I always disagree! My goal is to make you feel comfortable in your own skin, and then take some rad pics that capture you just as you are.
What is your approach to photography?
As a hybrid film photographer, I always strive to deliver classic and artistic photos. I try not to follow trendy editing patterns (too washed/too dark) and present images that look as true to real life as possible. That being said, I like to take risks and find out of the box locations for my sessions! I love challenging myself to always grow and take it to the next level artistically.
When it comes to editing, less is more! With film, very minimal editing is needed. Film captures colors and skin tones in such a romantic yet realistic way. My digital images are all matched stylistically to my film images so a viewer cannot tell the difference between the two.
