Tell us a little bit about your business.
Hey! I’m Sam, the native Pittsburgh girl behind Samantha Taylor Photography. I’ve been photographing weddings for about six years now and I still never get tired of wiping the happy tears welling up in my eyes from behind my camera lens. I have been attached to my camera since high school and shortly thereafter found myself completing a fine art degree in photography from Point Park University. I’ve always felt compelled to preserve memories as I experience them, and photography just became such a natural way for me to combine my background in art with the way I witness real life unfolding around me. Documenting wedding days for others has been such an honor and privilege – it’s a gift that gives for years and generations to come.
What makes your work unique?
I’m a bit of a daydreamer and a hopeless romantic and I will romanticize my couples, their love, and every part of their wedding day through my camera lens. Feelings drive everything I do and every decision I make, right down to the click of my camera shutter. I want my photos to reflect not only the genuine and authentic emotion that is felt during the entirety of the wedding day, but also all of the small details that I know were so carefully and intentionally chosen. Stylistically, my work is warm and colorful with an emphasis on rich earthy tones.
What is your ideal client like?
My ideal client is simple – someone who trusts me and seriously just wants to enjoy their day to the fullest. My creativity thrives when I am not constricted by multi-page shot lists and my clients value my professional input and expertise. Clients who know that I care about them, have their best interest at heart, and will capture every important moment of the day as it happens.
I especially love the rule-breakers – the couples who aren’t afraid to do away with tradition to curate a day that is a true mirror of their personalities and hearts. I’m spontaneous and always down for an adventure and I’m so hyped when my crazy ideas are met with an open mind. Don’t mind dancing in the rain? Laying in the cool grass? Sneaking away for a few minutes for the perfect golden hour sun? Sign me up.
What is your approach to photography?
By nature, I am a quiet observer. I’m a go-with-the flow kinda gal. My goal is to really get to know my couples and watch the way they interact with one another, the unique way their love for each other shines. I want to know their hobbies, their interests, their humor. I want to have conversations that are real – interactions that make everyone feel comfortable in their skin and confident enough to bear their true selves. On a wedding day, I will absolutely give direction where needed and check the “must-haves” off my list, but I really just love to take a step back and watch for the moments that aren’t planned, the memories that you don’t even realize you’re making.
