Tell me a little bit about your business!
Oh Joyful Day was born after my own wedding in 2015, but the heart of my business is something I have been growing for as long as I can remember. Ever since I was young, I have had a deep appreciation and love for everything creative. When I was planning my own wedding, I never found save the dates or invitations that I absolutely loved. My greatest hope for my wedding was that it would be a true celebration of us and the people we love, so I decided to design my own stationery and do all of the calligraphy myself.
After my wedding, I started getting asked to do calligraphy and design for other people and I quickly realized how much joy I found in creating for people – especially for their weddings! Being a self-taught artist and stationer, I never expected to be able to make this a career, but I’m now a full-time designer.
While my business started as mostly calligraphy on wooden signs and chalkboards, I now get to offer a wide variety of pieces to my clients! Save the dates, invitations, escort cards, programs, menus, fabric pieces, gifts, art installations, and other decor items are all pieces that I love creating, while still focusing on hand-lettered and hand-painted designs.
What makes your work unique?
First and foremost, I’m an artist. I may not have any formal graphic design training, but I have a natural eye and feeling for what I do. My work has more of a focus on creativity and art, allowing a lot of freedom when it comes to custom stationery. It’s my hope that in each piece I create, you feel celebrated and represented well, no matter your colors, theme, or style. By the end of the process, I will genuinely be so excited for your wedding because I’ve gotten to know you and your love story over the months and months of designing!
What is your ideal client like?
Excited, genuine, joyful, and kind. They are real humans in love and want to celebrate it with the people that mean the most to them. They may enjoy bright, fun colors, or choose to stick to a more simple, neutral palette – whatever feels the most like them! They value art and creativity, and trust me to work with them in order to create pieces that will honor who they are.
It is also important to me that my clients feel welcome and celebrated in the wedding planning process, regardless of who they love or how they identify. You shouldn’t have to ask me if I will do your wedding based on who you’re marrying – the answer is yes!
How do you work with couples to bring their wedding paper dreams to life?
The best way to reach me is to fill out the contact form on my website. Once I receive your inquiry, I’ll send over a longer questionnaire that gives me more information about your wedding day, who you are as a couple, your budget, and the services you’re interested in. From there, we can either meet up in person for coffee or a cocktail, or via phone if you’re not local. I love this part of the process because it allows me to get to know you better, which allows me to create pieces that feel like you! This part also includes paper samples, wax seal colors, envelope colors, and all the other pretty stationery pieces!
After the consultation, I’ll send a proposal that gives you all the pricing details, and once that is signed and the deposit is taken care of, we celebrate and get to work! From here, the process changes depending on what items I’m creating for you. But no matter what, it’s focused on you having a stress-free and joyful experience while ordering your stationery!
