Tell us a little bit about your business.
First things first, I absolutely love my job and running Lindsey Zern Photography. Being able to capture memories for couples on one of the best days of their lives is such an honor to me, and I seriously have so much fun being a wedding and engagement photographer! I’m a Pittsburgh girl through and through. I’ve always been an artistic person, and the fact that I can have a job serving people through an artistic means blows my mind. I’ve been doing photography since college, but really decided to put all my energy into my own business once I decided to drop out of grad school and pursue wedding photography full time. It’s been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made, and I wouldn’t change it for the world.
What makes your work unique?
My posing style incorporates a lot of movement and emotion, which is something that I always strive to show in my photographs. I like to show the connection between the couple, so I don’t have many photos where both people are looking right into my camera! By having the couple looking at each other and interacting, it really creates a genuine spark between the two and captures the best emotions, smiles, and adorable moments. When editing, I like to mix traditional and more modern styles of editing. I still retain the natural, true colors from the day, but I love to add a modern vibe with more contrast and grit.
What is your ideal client like?
I absolutely LOVE my couples. Without them, I obviously wouldn’t have a job, but I consider my couples to be friends and I prioritize getting to know them. My ideal client would be couples that also have the same mindset about their photographer. Let’s hang out, grab drinks, and get to know each other. I can guarantee you that it will make you more comfortable with me, and the best photos are made when the couple is comfortable with their photographer. If I had to choose three words to describe my perfect couple, it would be spontaneous, adventurous, and trusting.
What is your approach to photography?
My goal is always to capture artistic and emotional photos that really capture the mood behind what was going on in front of my lens. I don’t like to get super posey and stiff when it comes to photos because each couple is different, and I want my photos to capture them as their truest selves. To do this, I love to incorporate a lot of movement into my posing. It could be dancing, hip bumping while walking, or tightly embracing each other – just as long as it gets the couple moving and not constantly wondering, “What do I do with my hands?!” I’m a firm believer that photos should be fun, and I always do my best to make that happen no matter what type of session I’m in.
