Tell us a little bit about your business.
Hey there! I’m Kristy, and the owner of Kristy Lumsden Photography. My passion for photography started when I was a kid, pouring through outdated National Geographic magazines anytime I was alone. That passion never stopped growing, and I decided to start my own photography business back in 2008 after shooting weddings and portraits for years as a student. My love of weddings never died, so I finally bit the bullet, leaving my job and going full-time. My life hasn’t been the same since. I love everything about what I do, from the friendships I’ve made with my amazing peers and clients here in Pittsburgh, to nearly becoming part of the family as my couples become parents.
What makes your work unique?
While I’m heavily influenced by photojournalism, I really enjoy fun and spontaneous moments that I feel makes my work stand out. I love interaction, emotions, and real moments. The most important thing to me is that my images reflect my client’s personalities, so while we may have those serious portraits for the mantle, we also sing, dance, and have a lot of fun. I love that I can mix my experience with photojournalism with a carefree energy; it really lends to telling the full story, and all the emotions that come with a wedding day. My editing style, while slightly moody, has natural tones and deep shadows that adds a bit of a romantic vibe.
What is your ideal client like?
My ideal client is anyone who will fully put their trust in me, so that I can help make their wedding day pure magic. I really love to get to know my couples, to have a connection to them, and it’s not unusual for us to leave a session as friends.
What is your approach to photography?
I have a very laid back approach to my photography, but I also know when to step in to make a tweak here and there to make your images perfect. My goal is to always be relaxed and personal to make my couples feel comfortable in front of my camera. When it comes to your wedding day, I’ll be there every step of the way, making sure you have everything you need, and making sure your day goes smoothly.
