Tell me a little bit about your business!
All throughout college, I worked at Tim McLoone’s Supper Club in Asbury Park, New Jersey – a little banquet hall on the Jersey shore. I worked with a team of people setting up for beautiful beach weddings, breaking them down, and most importantly, working the wedding itself. It was amazing – to help orchestrate someone’s happiest day and to be a fly on the wall of the day that many brides consider the best day ever. It just brings me so much joy to witness, be a part of, and help coordinate such a special day for people. I didn’t realize it at the time, but the wedding industry was where I belonged.
As a designer, it was kind of my life-long dream to design my wedding invitations and all of the wedding goodies that went along with it. What I didn’t know was that I was going to fall in love with the process. Ever since creating my save the date, my taste for invitation and wedding design has become something of its own. It has become a passion.
It started as a solution. I, like many brides-to-be, went looking on the web for invitations. I went to all of the well-known, pre-made invitation websites. There were so many invitations that were beautiful that I liked, but none that I loved. That was a big deal for me. I wanted my wedding “theme” to be consistent and carried out from save-the-dates to thank you cards. I wanted to build a brand. There was nothing on the internet that could provide that feeling, so I got to work.
That was a few years ago in New Jersey. Now, I’m here in Pittsburgh to help bring that same feeling to everyone I work with.
What makes your work unique?
I once heard a phrase that went a little something like this, “the only difference between an empty room and a party is an invitation.” Let’s make that party happen – your way.
I’d like to think at Hungry Heart Ink, I make invitations for the non-template bride. My invitations are for the couples that have looked everywhere and just haven’t found something that was them. That’s where I come in. I’m here to figure out what that special sauce is that makes your invites YOU! I make offbeat invites for the offbeat couple, but also on-beat invitations for the on-beat bride, if ya know what I mean? Modern invites for the modern bride, and so on. I make invitations for you and what fuels you and makes you unique.
What is your ideal client like?
My ideal client is passionate. Passionate about what? Everything. My ideal wedding guys, gals and non-binary pals are someone who might not know what they want, but my goodness, when they know, they feel it and it runs through every bone in their body and charges a passion. My ideal client isn’t just picking florals, linens, and invitations; they’re falling in love with each one and are so excited every step of the way. I’m here to be your hype-woman (and designer, of course) and to bring your dreams, passions, and visions to life! Let’s be excited together and make some wedding magic.
How do you work with couples to bring their wedding paper dreams to life?
My process is pretty simple. We’ll start with the numbers, everyone’s least favorite part – that way it only gets more exciting from there. Once we hammer out pricing (since all work is custom, we’ll nail down your custom quote), we dive deep into your design. You tell me anything that inspires you: the florals, the colors, your pets, your hobbies, something you saw once on a TV show that you vaguely remember but love it, or even just a feeling that inspires you and we’ll talk it out and find out what you love.
From there, I’ll work my design-ey magic and whip up a proof for you to really, really mull over. Take it, stare at it, show your loved ones, print it, circle your favorite parts, tell me your least favorite parts. You can tell me anything and everything about this invitation – what you love and hate. That’s where the magic really happens. We keep getting to know each other better and better. It’s really a ton of fun.
The rest of the process is just getting all those words, addresses, and whatever else worked out. We spell check, we add forgotten relatives to your envelopes, and we make sure to get every last detail to be as perfect as your big day.
