Tell us a little bit about your business.
Hi! My name is Carl S. Miller and I am both a wedding photographer and filmmaker. Originally from California, I’ve slowly made my way east and am so excited to have finally settled down in Pittsburgh. I serve couples throughout the U.S. and pride myself on building relationships with my clients. It not only ensures my work becomes an accurate reflection of your personality and relationship, but it helps us have some fun along the way.
What makes your work unique?
I’m dubious of my own self-awareness to identify that, let alone my command of language to articulate it. Hopefully it’s something you see and feel when viewing my work. I’m passionately anti-fad, and do my best to put blinders on to what is “hot” within the industry. I want my work to have an authentic genesis from my own hand and artistic instincts. I believe that’s the only way to create something both unique and timeless for my clients, but also fulfilling for myself.
What is your ideal client like?
The diversity of couples I’ve worked with has brought beautiful surprises and unexpected adventures, to the point where I’d be remiss to define a box not everyone can fit in. However, while it is a dream career to capture moments with my camera, I can only witness such moments; I can’t create them for you. That is why my ideal client is open and willing to being vulnerable on their wedding day. Couples who aren’t afraid to articulate their love out loud, to let it show on their faces, or to let it sweep them up in a moment. Be your true, unfiltered selves, and that’s who will be in your photographs.
What is your approach to photography?
I want my work to make you feel something. That’s what I’m always chasing, what I’m orienting myself to, how I’m dictating my approach. Something happens physiologically when you look at a great photograph. It’s a rush of feelings, memories, contemplation, and I want my work to give you that response. On the day that means a couple things. I’m capturing all the big moments, but also searching for the little ones, as it’s the small moments that often have the biggest meaning. Combined with planned portrait sessions throughout the day, the result is a great combination of candid, documentary-style photographs and artful portraits.
