Tell us a little bit about your business.
I am a preservation specialist and have been preserving wedding flowers for Pittsburgh brides and brides around the country for three years. My primary method of preservation is freeze drying. I am trained in the art of long term flower preservation, bouquet reconstruction, installation of bouquet behind glass, and flower petal jewelry creation. My interest for flower preservation began when I was preparing for my own wedding and decided to use dried flowers for my bouquet. After the wedding, I used my dried flower bouquet to assemble a wreath. Once I realized how much joy my preserved flowers brought me, I began to learn how to preserve a variety of flowers to maintain their original color and beautiful, natural form. Thus, Aja Maria Floral was born.
What makes your work unique?
Flower preservation is a true art form. My artwork is unique because I offer a variety of options for both short term and long term flower preservation. My work first became noticed for the creativity of my bridal wreaths. However, once I perfected my preservation technique and began to offer flowers preserved behind glass, many more creative opportunities arose. I offer whole bouquets preserved behind glass, partial bouquets arranged in an agreed upon design, and much more. I am able to create jewelry out of crushed flower petals for generations to enjoy. My bridal wreaths/memorial wreaths remain the most popular product, despite the fact that the wreaths are not guaranteed to last for more than five years due to natural environmental wear. Clients love to have extra wreaths and ornaments created for their family members.
What is your ideal client like?
My ideal client appreciates the natural beauty of flowers and desires to hold on to the memories associated with their flowers long after their wedding. This client works with me to explore the multitude of preservation options I offer, and probably selects multiple options to incorporate pieces of their wedding day into everyday life.
