Alyssa Thomas Events believes in serving others, that you can never have too many fresh flowers, and that each love story is unique and worth telling. It's these beliefs that make Alyssa one of my favorite Pittsburgh wedding planners. While this Ohio-transplant may be new to the area, she's a veteran when it comes to designing and executing stylish soirees with thoughtful details and pops of color that rival any Pinterest board. A background in fashion and business gives her a unique edge and allows her to excel at both the creative and logistical side of wedding planning. Meanwhile, Alyssa's kind heart, sweet disposition, and belief that kindness always wins makes her an absolute joy to work with. Alyssa says her mission is to treat your wedding day “like the beautiful celebration it’s meant to be.” If those aren't the best words spoken by a wedding planner, I don't know what are.

Tell me a little bit about your business!

My passion for serving others and creating joyful celebrations has been prominent throughout my entire life. With a degree in Fashion Merchandising and Business Marketing, I've mastered the hard skills that are necessary to create and execute a design or project from beginning to end. I currently offer event consulting, day of coordination, and full service planning and design. I also customize planning packages to the needs of each clients if they don't fit in the above parameters. While I'll reside in Cranberry Township, I love to explore new cities and countries. I'm available for world wide travel and destination events.

The person I am today is accredited my positive and encouraging relationship with my family, my supportive husband, a community of amazing friends, Jesus, choosing to be kind, Ashland University and my collegiate basketball coaches and teammates, and four years of learning from some of the best managers and teammates at Under Armour, where I started my career.

What I can't get enough of? Fresh flowers, the lake, every single thing in Anthropologie, a trip to HomeGoods, a long run to clear my mind, spending time outdoors, oatmeal chocolate chip cookies, and Ben and Jerry's Chunky Monkey ice cream.

What makes your work unique?

I truly believe that every couple is unique and their wedding day should reflect their journey to this monumental time in their life. I have an eye for color and style, am passionate about mixing textures and dimension, and while tradition is good, I firmly believe no wedding should look or feel the same. Wedding planning is a combination of two parts – logistics and creativity – and both parts receive the utmost attention during the planning process.

All of my day of and full service clients receive access to their very own profile on my online planning platform – Aisle Planner. I work hand-in-hand with my clients through the planning process and every detail is added to this program to keep clients on track and updated in real time as plans evolve. Some capabilities of Aisle Planner include: a checklist, budget creator, timeline, design boards, guest list tracker, seating chart assistance, organized vendor information, and a notes section.

While social media and Pinterest are an excellent source of inspiration, I find extreme value in pulling inspiration and design cues from nature and the beautiful world we live in. I hope that when you look through my portfolio, Instagram, and website, you find beautiful events and imagery that reflect each client's personal style and taste.

What is your ideal client like?

The ideal Alyssa Thomas Events client is excited to host a wedding that reflects their love story in a unique and personal way. ATE couples love a little romance, love a little whimsy, and aren't afraid to use color, texture, and dimension to portray their personal style. They understand that selecting a venue that aligns with their vision is the heart and soul of the entire planning process and they are passionate about hosting a wedding that celebrates their love through a series of thoughtful details that are appreciated. My motto is “You can never have enough florals, you can never have enough desserts, and you can never have enough romantic lighting.”

What is your approach to wedding planning and design?

I approach the wedding planning process with an open mind and an enormous desire to get to know the couple I am working with inside and out. I am passionate about creating trusting friendships with my clients and building relationships that are open to new thoughts, sharing ideas, and partnering on creating a wedding day that reflects their unique personality and story.

I personally value family and friendships that are supportive, fruitful, and encouraging and am so grateful to be part of a moment in my client's lives where all of their valued family and friends are in the same place at the same time. Everyone deserves a one of a kind experience, and treating my client's wedding day like the beautiful celebration it’s meant to be is what I set out to accomplish.

What is the creative process like? How do you work with couples to bring their wedding dreams to life?

I believe that your life experiences are what make you the unique and wonderful human being you are today, and that's where the planning process begins – with you, your passions, your interests, and the feelings you want to evoke on your wedding day.

The first step in my creative process is taking time to learn about my clients, their experiences in life, and their journey to finding the person they want to spend the rest of their life with. Building a trusting relationship with my clients and my time spent learning more about them is the backbone of the entire process and influences the vendor choices and wedding day design.

It's also important to note that while I like to begin working with my full service clients 1-1.5 years in advance of their wedding date, I have planned a full wedding in as little as four months. There is never a wrong time to hire a professional to help you plan:)

What is your secret to staying calm under pressure? How do you deal with day-of challenges?

While the ideal wedding day would be everything happening exactly to plan, that’s not always the case. Remaining positive and being quick to think on my feet when the unexpected happens is the secret to hosting a successful event without a hitch. As a planner, the client’s guests and vendors are also my guests and vendors… and treating everyone as such is crucial. Remembering that kindness always wins and having a trusted backup plan is important to staying calm under pressure.
