Take it from someone who has had their photograph taken by Steven Dray Images…this guy is sick. His talent is seemingly boundless and his personality is humble, kind, and down to earth. That's a winning combination in a wedding photographer if you ask me! Steve's unique artistic eye has made him one of the most sought-after photogs in the city, and for good reason. He has somehow found a way to create images that are both timeless and modern, edgy and romantic. However, regardless of the shot, he's keen to make sure it's as true to life as possible. No fuss or muss here; Steve considers his job to be capturing frames while you're busy being you. But he doesn't want to just return a pretty picture; he wants to make you relive that moment and feel all of the same emotions that you felt when the shutter was snapped. He wants to create a legacy. And isn't that what wedding days are all about – creating lifelong memories with the ones you love the most?! I vote yes!

Tell me a little bit about your business!
Steven Dray Images was formed in 2010. A line cook by day and a photographer by night and on the weekend, I hustled hard until I could devote 100% of my time to my budding photography business. Shortly after our oldest child was born, I went full-time and have not looked back since.
What makes your work unique? Why should brides and grooms hire you?
I'm not your everyday photographer. As a hybrid film and digital media professional, I use my unique artistic perspective and experience to deliver timeless, classic and beautiful images to every client. Whether capturing a wedding, family, engagement or a high-school senior, I strive to deliver legacy portraits that my clients will cherish forever.
What is your ideal client like?
Easy question! They are in love and aren't afraid to show it. Many times, clients say they are not photogenic but I always disagree! My goal is to make you feel comfortable in your own skin, and then take some rad pics that capture you just as you are.
How would you describe your photography style?
As a hybrid film photographer, I always strive to deliver classic and artistic photos. I try not to follow trendy editing patterns (too washed/too dark) and present images that look as true to real life as possible. That being said, I like to take risks and find out of the box locations for my sessions! I love challenging myself to always grow and take it to the next level artistically.
What techniques do you use to help clients feel comfortable with you and in front of the camera?
I tell LOTS of corny jokes to get my clients laughing. I have found that everyone is nervous initially about getting their pictures taken, but once the ice is broken, the magic can happen. I never want my clients to feel posed or unnatural. I will NEVER rush a session! I always allow for time to get comfortable. This has never failed me yet!
What emotions do you think your images evoke?
I believe my images evoke feelings of joy and stir pleasant memories for viewers. Since I shoot photo-journalistically, my goal is for my photos to take the subjects back to the time and place the photo was taken. I want them to vividly remember how THEY felt in the moment .
What is your approach to editing?
Less is more! With film, very minimal editing is needed. Film captures colors and skin tones in such a romantic yet realistic way. My digital images are all matched stylistically to my film images so a viewer cannot tell the difference between the two. 🙂
