If you consider yourself a boho bride or even just a free spirit, you're going to love Oakwood Photo + Video. Alexa and Wes, the husband and wife team behind this budding business, pride themselves on producing unique, documentary style photography and videography with a rustic, folk-art twist. These two souls love nature and anything bohemian, and any couple who is willing to step outside their comfort zone and do something different is totally their jam. Whether they are documenting your intimate moments, your emotions, or all of those tiny details you spent months planning, Oakwood Photo + Video approaches your wedding with the same amount of excitement and joy that you do. They love experiencing the special day with their clients, and the organic, whimsical way in which they capture it means you can relive the memories over and over again. And Oakwood's work is so good that you'll want to do just that.
Tell me a little bit about your business!
We offer couples unique and personalized wedding photography and videography. We are a husband and wife photo + video team that started professionally shooting weddings back in 2013. Working with awesome couples and being a part of such emotional and exciting celebrations is what attracted us to weddings. Seeing the smiles and sometimes tears of joy on couples' faces when we deliver their pictures and video is what inspires us to approach each wedding with that same level of excitement.
What makes your work unique? Why should brides and grooms hire you?
One of the biggest reasons couples hire us is because we offer photo and video that has a cohesive style. We only take on a limited number of weddings each year to ensure that we have the time and resources to give each couple a personal experience with us and that each wedding is captured and delivered with a style and branding that we are proud of.
What is your ideal client like?
Our ideal client is someone who is easy going and loves nature or anything folk, rustic, or boho. We love to get adventurous, so it makes us happy when couples are willing to do something a little different! Whether couples are breaking from a tradition or choosing a venue that is unique, we always enjoy the fun and personalized details that show off the couple’s own quirkiness and distinct personalities.
For us, we like to have a personal and friendly relationship with our clients. So we enjoy getting to know them throughout the planning and preparation process of their big day and we like to even stay in touch with our past couples beyond the wedding.
Do you travel for destination weddings?
Yes we do! In fact, we have a whole bucket list featured on our website with places that we would love to shoot weddings. Certain locations may even be discounted a bit. There are some local venues on the bucket list as well, so make sure that you check it out!
How would you describe your photography style?
We like to describe our photography and videography style as documentary, organic, and whimsical. We love capturing the beautiful details and all of the emotions that make each wedding unique.
What techniques do you use to help clients feel comfortable with you and in front of the camera?
Rather than setting the couple up in an uncomfortable, stiff-looking pose, we like have them interact with one another, joke around, laugh, cuddle, and just be themselves. The images and films always turn out much more beautiful because the couple doesn’t feel awkward in front of us and our cameras.
What emotions do you think your images evoke?
When a bride and groom look at our photos and films, we want them to feel like they're being taken back to their wedding day and reliving those happy, exciting, and oh-so-special moments.
What is your approach to editing?
We edit both our photos and films with a vintage/film-like style, but try to keep everything still looking timeless so couples will love their photos and film for years to come.
What other items do you offer?
We offer a selection of rustic wood, leather, and linen albums.
