This group brings the entertainment to your big day with their electrifying, makes-you-want-to-get-up-and-dance performance. Move Makers isn't just a wedding band…they're an actual band that just happens to also perform at weddings. That means they take their expertise in performing on a stage, energizing a crowd, and making people have a great time and apply it to your celebration. Everyone loves live music, right? So why not treat your wedding guests to their own private music show! From old favorites to today's chart toppers, Move Makers specializes in it all, and they'll even learn new songs just so that dance with your new spouse, your mom, or your dad is extra meaningful. They tailor their set lists to the couple's style and their guests' demographics, but what they really excel at is engaging with the crowd. The musicians don't hesitate to have dance offs with crazy groomsmen and the singers and horn players are known to join the dance floor. Now that sounds like a party, doesn't it?

Tell me a little bit about your business!
My husband and I started this band after returning from Austin in late 2014. He is an international touring artist who has played with acts like Jason Mraz, Dave Matthews, Post Modern Jukebox, etc. We decided to start this band because we were shocked to see that private events in Pittsburgh were primarily using DJs. In Austin, EVERYONE has a band for private events. My husband handles managing the band and I handle all customer service from bookings to logistics and communications with clients. We offer live entertainment for all sorts of events, weddings, charities, corporate parties, and promotional events.
We also offer levels and tiers of pricing for clients – from the full service wedding (ceremony, cocktail, and reception live music entertainment) to just reception entertainment.
What makes your work unique? Why should brides and grooms hire you?
Everyone wants their wedding day to be special, unique, and tailored to their tastes – from flowers to the music. We offer our couples many ways to customize their event – from the style and genre of music for the ceremony or cocktail hour as well as the option to choose their personalized songs for their special dances like the first dance and parents' dances. We learn these songs especially for them and their event. From classical guitar and flute for the ceremony to a small swing band for dinner, our nine-piece band can offer a ton of styles to fit any couple's tastes. Also, I cannot stress enough that we are one of the few private event bands that is actually a BAND. We have had mostly the same members from the time we started; that makes us a tight band that is extremely flexible. Plus, frankly, we rock!
What is your ideal client like?
Our ideal clients want to party! They are the couples that want to dance all night and have a private “concert-like” experience with their friends and family.
Is there a genre of music in which you specialize?
We specialize in popular dance music, from Motown, funk, R&B, soul, and pop from the 80's to today's artists. We love everything Bruno Mars, and stay up to date on current chart toppers.
How do you get to know your client's taste in music?
We get involved early when dealing with couples. During the booking process we talk about what artists and songs they like, as well as the age and demographic of their guests. Months before the event, we always ask for a list of “must haves” and “do not plays,” which helps us understand what music to include in their set list for the evening.
How do you motivate guests to get on the dance floor and bust some moves?
We are extremely interactive. Both of our singers and our horn players often hit the room and the dance floor many times throughout the show. For example, if we are playing a Michael Jackson tune, we will ask the guests to come to the stage to show off their best moonwalk along with our male vocalist.
How would you describe your emcee style?
We of course like to make all pertinent announcements during the event from intros, speeches, cake cutting, etc. Other than that, we are ready to party! We do not like a lot of useless chit chat between songs or storytelling, but we will often initiate “call and response” lines and other things to get the crowd engaged or offer a brief line or two while segueing into a song.
