Pittsburgh's own Kata Banko Couture is redefining the world of wedding day accessories. With their luxurious, handcrafted bridal veils, headpieces, belts, and more, Kata Bankos brings together a bohemian style with vintage flair. Femininity meets modern fashion in each curated piece. Head designer and owner Colleen meticulously cuts, presses, and sews every flower, bead, and piece of lace and her passion (and extreme talent) is evident in her work. Only the finest, ethically sourced materials are used and everything is crafted for an individual bride. Nothing is mass produced. This means Kata Banko's one-of-a-kind bridal accessories are made with the client in mind – custom statement pieces just for you. If you're still looking for that one special something that will make you stand out from every other bride, look no further!
Tell me a little bit about your business!
I started Kata Banko Couture Veiling and Accessories in 2010 while working as a seamstress at a bridal salon. The owner asked me to create a belt and it just grew from there. Each and every piece is made with love! I personally make every piece by hand, I only use the finest, ethically sourced fabrics and silks, and all of my supplies are made in the USA. Every petal is hand-cut, hand-pressed, and hand-sewn. No detail is overlooked. And yes, this is my full time gig. I couldn't imagine doing anything else. It is most definitely one of the highest honors to be a part of someone's big day. I love it!
What makes your work unique? Why should brides and grooms hire you?
I create for the bride. I do not mass produce. Every piece is made to order and, for the most part, is customizable. My favorite thing to do is one-of-a-kind, custom commissions. I love to work with creatives and brides who want something that no one else will ever have.
What is your ideal client like?
My ideal client is someone who has a clear vision of who they are and they wear it proudly! It's easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of planning your wedding, and everyone has an opinion on what you should look like. I am a very laid back chick, so I like to create that easy vibe for my clients. It's all about them. Be yourself, be creative with your look, and most of all have fun with this. You are marrying the love of your life! That's all that matters. <3
What is your vision of your company?
To save as many people and animals that I can! This business is a catalyst to a bigger picture. It will provide the means to do so much good for so many people.
