Living abroad and traveling the world left Bethany and Chris wanting something a little more relaxed for their wedding day. With it’s rolling grounds and whimsical barn, Shady Elms Farm played a picture perfect backdrop for this casual affair. An indoor ceremony under hanging bistro lights and exposed beams was followed by a laid back reception full of good food, good music, and plenty of laughter. A soft color palette of mint, peach, and ivory was brighten with subtle pops of blue, while antique details adorned the space. To go with the low key atmosphere, Bethany even donned a flower crown and went barefoot for some of the stunning portraits captured by Steven Dray Images. This vintage rustic wedding is sure to inspire so have that Pin It button ready!
From the bride…
Tell me about yourselves! When and how did you meet? How long have you been together? How did you get engaged? All the juicy details!
We met in college at Penn State University and had been together nine years when we got married. We spent our 20s living in California and New Zealand, traveling the world together. In October 2016, Christopher proposed on the beach in Delaware, where he grew up. The beach was empty; it was the perfect location.
Describe the wedding and what inspired it. What was unique about it?
We had been living abroad prior to the wedding so we really wanted a casual atmosphere where our friends and family could catch up. I love rustic themes and Shady Elms Farm had the perfect look and took care of all the catering and decorations. They were wonderful on the day and incredibly professional. We had the run of the grounds for the entire day which included the barn, the carriage house, and the rolling fields. They made the wedding incredibly unique to our style and preferences, from the linens to the flowers. It was perfect.
What was your favorite moment of the day?
We had a minute after dinner where Christopher and I went up in the hills and took pictures as the sun was setting. It was wonderful to take a few minutes to ourselves and Steven, our photographer, captured the beauty of the farm perfectly.
Is there any advice you would give to other couples planning their big day?
I think everyone says to make sure and take a moment to breath it all in. It goes so quickly. I think the most amazing thing I realized was our wedding was one of the only times in our life that all of the people that were most important to us were in one place at one time together. It’s an incredible experience and makes the day so special.
