There is something about a vintage romance inspired wedding that is just so…well…romantic! Like total le swooning over here. That’s what today’s real wedding feature will have you doing.
After Robin and Justin’s friendship blossomed into love, these two high school sweethearts finally tied the knot. For their wedding day, Robin wanted to recreate all of the love and romance she had always felt in her relationship with Justin. Upon touring the Longue Vue Club, Robin knew its beautiful architecture and surrounding grounds would fit the vibe perfectly. But it wasn’t until she stumbled upon some pink mercury glass candle holders that the entire look really came together. The bride worked with florist Julie James Design to use the candle holders instead of traditional centerpiece vases and the rest of the vintage romance theme came to life from there. Keep your eyes peeled for some of my favorite details!
- The color scheme. What is a more romantic color than pink? Robin chose blush and gold as her wedding hues. When the softness and femininity of these shades were paired with the venue and the overall ambiance for the day, it was a match made in heaven.
- Robin’s dress. A bride can never go wrong in Hayley Paige. The sweetheart neck ballgown with its wide trim edging helped Robin take the term “blushing bride” to a whole new level.
- Those flowers! The unique pink mercury glass centerpieces weren’t the only beautiful florals at this wedding. Just wait until you see the elevated arrangements and bouquets! Pink roses, hydrangeas, astilbe, snap dragons…they were literally dripping in romance. I bet the smell was divine too!
- Chalkboard details. Paying a slight tribute to her profession (an elementary teacher!), Robin got crafty with some chalk art and created the table numbers and signs for the escort card table, cigar bar, and cookie table. They added a hint of whimsy to the decor.
- Stunning portraits! For real. Just like pink is the go-to color for a romantic wedding day, Eva Lin is the go-to photographer. Between the golden light, the incredible scenery, and the adorableness that is Robin and Justin, I was positively giddy over these portraits!
This incredible feature is sure to leave your heart all aflutter. If it doesn’t, you might want to check your pulse. Just saying.
From the bride…
When and how did you two meet?
Justin and I are high school sweethearts! We met our freshman year and quickly became close friends. It took us a while to realize that our friendship was something more. Over the years, we realized how similar we were and how much we enjoyed being around each other. From the beginning, Justin has always been my best friend. I was attracted to his hilarious sense of humor and caring personality (and of course, how handsome he is). Justin and I went to our senior prom together and have been together ever since.
Juicy details on the proposal, please! Where, when, how?
Our favorite vacation spot is Hilton Head, South Carolina. Last August, we went on our annual family vacation and I had absolutely no idea that Justin was planning to propose. Justin is a huge jokester and literally joked all the time about proposing. I even joked that when he did actually propose, I would never believe that it was real. After spending the day on the beach with our family, we came back to get ready for dinner. While sitting by the pool talking with his family, Justin came outside with teary eyes. I thought something really bad happened! He then got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. At first, I thought it was another one of his jokes, but by the look on his face I knew it was real (and there was a ring!). We spent the rest of the week celebrating with our family and enjoying the beach.
Describe the wedding. The look, theme, style, colors, etc.
The one word that comes to mind when describing our wedding is romantic. I wanted our wedding style to reflect the honest romance that I’ve always felt from our relationship. When we first went to Longue Vue Club, I knew it fit the vision that I had for our wedding. Longue Vue screams vintage romance. The club has amazing architecture, scenery, and romantic touches.
Although I’ve never been crazy about the color pink, I felt that blush pink and gold would compliment the venue perfectly while staying with our romantic style. I decided to use gold chiavari chairs to incorporate subtle gold accents into our reception. Being an elementary school teacher, I have an obsession with chalkboards and chalk art. I decided to use small gold chalkboards as table numbers, along with larger gold chalkboard signs for our wedding gifts, cookie table, etc. I loved these simple details that incorporated hints of gold. We incorporated blush by using pink napkins and chair bows. Our centerpieces were absolutely beautiful with pink roses, hydrangeas, astilbe, snapdragons, and greenery. Our vision came alive perfectly on our wedding day.
What inspired your vision?
Surprisingly enough, I was inspired by candle holders! I was so stressed about the vision for our wedding because I truly just couldn’t picture how everything was going to come together. About five months before the big day, I found a set of three tiered pink mercury glass candle holders in a store. I had a vision of putting flowers in them to create centerpieces. With the help of my florist, we were able to use the candle holders as inspiration for blush and gold flowers and decor.
What made your wedding unique?
It was filled with so much love all day and night….literally every second!
What was your favorite moment of the day?
My favorite moment of the day was when Justin and I snuck away to take pictures together on the golf course. Our photographer found a beautiful tree that overlooked the Allegheny River. It was absolutely breathtaking! It was such a special moment because it was one of the only times that day that we were alone. Our photographer was absolutely amazing and made us feel so special while taking our pictures. We completely forgot they were there! At one point, I remember looking down on our guests during the cocktail hour and looking at Justin standing next to me…I just felt so overwhelmed with happiness and love that it brought me to tears. It was such a special moment and I was so happy to share it with Justin.
Bride to Bride
What advice would you give to other Burgh Brides planning their big day?
Be sure to take time for just you and your new husband on your wedding day, even if it is for just a few minutes. We also tried to stay together the entire night. It was too special of a night to spend any time apart!
