With subtle accents of brass decor and burgundy florals, Alison and Toby’s wedding at Soldiers & Sailors was doused in vintage-inspired winter glamour. Rachel Wehan Photography captured every detail, beginning with their ceremony in the chapel at Toby’s alma mater, Duquesne University. Alison’s gown, sourced from One White Lane Bridal Gallery, was perfectly styled for the season, featuring lace appliqué over an illusion mesh bodice, long sleeves, and a mock neck lace collar. From their Catholic ceremony to a ride on Molly’s Trolleys, every moment was elevated by the drama of her cathedral-length veil trimmed with lace. Steel City Florals created stunning bouquets with deep reds and dark, leafy greenery for moody pops of color. Upon arriving at Soldiers & Sailors, guests were greeted by seats wrapped in oversized red bows. Unique touches included a mix of brass candle holders, ornate frames and mirrors repurposed as signage, and the couple’s brocade chairs at the head table, creating a luxurious holiday atmosphere. Alison and Toby described their day as a “classic Pittsburgh wedding,” celebrating with a massive cookie table, the groom’s favorite local Straub Beer, and perfectly crisp weather. Their private cake-cutting was a standout moment, as they shared playful exchanges with their little white wedding cake from Bethel Bakery on their laps – champagne coupes in hand.

About the Couple
Alison and Toby reconnected at a mutual friend’s Christmas party a few years after college. They had first met in high school, but their love story officially began that night in the glow of holiday-themed activities and treats – they’ve been inseparable ever since. Alison and Toby share a love of travel and make an annual pilgrimage to the Strip District during Christmastime. Their most memorable trips include visits to Maine and Asheville, with the highlight being their trip to Atlantic Beach, North Carolina, where they got engaged. Since Toby is a Duquesne University alumnus, it was important for the couple to get married at the campus chapel and celebrate their nuptials in Pittsburgh.

About the Wedding
From the couple…
Family is a huge and essential part of our lives, so we wanted to incorporate meaningful wedding traditions to celebrate them. Guests traveled from sixteen different states across the country, including California, Colorado, and Maine. Our siblings participated in the ceremony, and all of Alison’s family – even a 9-year-old – did the readings during Mass.
Alison walked down the aisle holding an embroidered handkerchief passed down to every woman in her family for generations. She also included a picture of the groom’s maternal grandfather, wrapped into her bouquet, to honor his presence. With intention, we created a “Generations of Love” table at the reception, celebrating the strong family support surrounding us.
Our day felt like a classic Pittsburgh wedding: crisp weather, a massive cookie table, Renegade playing with Terrible Towels twirling, Straub Beer flowing (Toby’s favorite), and well-wishes from our closest family!

Favorite Moment
Our Catholic ceremony was incredibly meaningful to both of us. Our priest, Father Howard, has known Alison since elementary school and has guided her through many sacraments.
Setting aside time for a private cake-cutting was a fun, special moment that let us escape the craziness of the day. We were truly able to soak in that moment together. At the end of the night, our family and friends gathered around for the final song, giving us one last chance to dance and celebrate a perfect day!
