About the Couple
Sal and I met at WVU; I was in law school and Sal was getting his masters degree. We were both participating in our respective tailgates before a big WVU football game. After a win, we somehow ended up at a post-game celebration together. While there, we got to talking and realized we grew up about 45 minutes away from each other and had gone to rival high schools. We also realized we had shared the same friend group without knowing it for a large part of our lives. We hung out the entire night and the rest is history!
A few years later, we went to dinner at our favorite spot in town – Monterey Bay – with my twin sister and her husband. Afterwards, Sal suggested we walk across the street to get a picture at the Mount Washington overlook. As Sal and I posed for the picture, he dropped down on one knee with the sun setting in the background and asked me to marry him! Afterwards, he told me that we were going downtown to a restaurant to meet our parents. He surprised me again with a whole room full of our friends and family waiting to celebrate our engagement.
About the Wedding
The look I was going for was a very classic and romantic yet modern look. I wanted to be able to look back on my wedding years later and still be happy with the decisions I made. I also love a good black and white theme and how formal and crisp everything looks when put together.
I wore a gown by Anne Barge that was everything I wanted in a wedding dress. It was a modern take on a traditional ballgown and really inspired the rest of the wedding theme. Sal and the groomsmen wore black Calvin Klein tuxes with Pittsburgh themed socks – the socks were a huge hit! To keep with the theme, I chose an all white bouquet full of roses for myself and my bridesmaids. To tie in the timeless look of the Pennsylvanian, I added gold to my table settings and vases, as well as the menu cards. We had white satin linens on the tables and the napkins were laced in gold. Our favors were bride and groom themed chocolate covered Oreos. On the head table, we had a gold overlay to make the table stand out. Our florist, Jill, was also so amazing and made my Pinterest dreams come to life with high and low, all white flowered centerpieces for the tables.
What made our wedding unique was the extra details of the reception and cocktail hour. We had signature drinks, personalized napkins and matches, as well as a basket full of gold flip flops for all family and friends whose feet needed a break! Lastly, our late night snack of Italian sandwiches wrapped in twine really incorporated both of our families’ backgrounds. Overall, it was the wedding of our dreams!
Favorite Moment
It is so hard for us to pick a favorite moment of the day because the entire day from beginning to end was so special for us! For me, I think it was walking down the aisle and seeing Sal at the altar smiling back at me or the moment when we walked into the reception to the cheers of our family and friends. Sal’s favorite part of the day was greeting me and my dad as I got to the altar. Another special part of the day for Sal was sharing a glass of whiskey with his dad from a bottle his grandfather had left for them to drink on Sal’s wedding day.
