The Truth About Attending Bridal Shows: Know Before You Go

by Burgh Brides December 18, 2025

What exactly is a bridal show, and is it worth attending? For some couples, the lively energy of a busy expo is an exciting way to connect with Pittsburgh wedding vendors and book services on the spot. For others, the overwhelming amount of information and fast-paced environment may feel like a wedding planning nightmare.

Attending a bridal show offers plenty of perks, including the chance to meet wedding photographers, see florists’ work in person, and experience all the key elements of a wedding firsthand. From DJs to catering, wedding gowns to planners, a bridal show provides a unique opportunity to explore everything in one place.

But here’s the thing: you don’t have to go. While bridal shows might seem like a rite of passage for newly engaged couples, they’re not the only way to plan your wedding. If large crowds, rows of booths, and non-stop sales pitches sound overwhelming, you can skip the in-person event and rely on digital tools like our thoughtful guides to help you plan at your own pace.

In this article, we’ll explain what a bridal show is, what to expect if you decide to attend, and everything you need to know before you go.

The Truth About Attending Bridal Shows: Know Before You Go | Burgh Brides

What Is a Bridal Show?

A bridal show is a large-scale wedding expo featuring a variety of local wedding professionals and vendors. These events are typically organized in a booth-style setup, similar to a craft fair or open market, making it easy for attendees to browse and connect with businesses face-to-face.

Nearly every type of wedding service is represented – florists, caterers, photographers, dress boutiques, DJs, planners, bakers, and more. If it belongs at a wedding, you’ll see it at a bridal show. It’s a great opportunity to meet vendors in person, see examples of their work, and get a feel for their style and personality.

So why are all these vendors under one roof? Bridal shows offer them a chance to connect with other professionals, promote their services, and, most importantly, meet engaged couples actively planning their big day.

What Are the Perks of a Bridal Show?

Bridal shows offer a handful of major perks for engaged couples, but our top three reasons to attend are: gathering inspiration, meeting (or even booking) vendors, and potentially saving on wedding costs.

One of the biggest benefits? Convenience. You can chat with a variety of vendors all in one place. That means collecting brochures, snapping photos of displays, saving contact info, and learning about services you may not have even considered yet.

Many vendors also offer exclusive deals or discounts if you book on the spot, which can lead to big savings. It’s a great opportunity, but one that’s best approached with a little prep work. Before attending, have a list of vendors you’d like to visit and a clear idea of what you’re comfortable committing to day of.

Keep In Mind: Bridal Shows Aren’t for Everyone

While bridal shows can be exciting and informative, they’re not the right fit for everyone, and that’s totally okay! If you prefer a more relaxed, one-on-one approach to wedding planning, the high-energy environment of a large expo might feel overwhelming.

These events are often loud and very crowded, especially the larger shows hosted at venues like the David L. Lawrence Convention Center or the Wyndham Grand Pittsburgh, which can draw thousands of attendees each day.

Here are our top tips for making the most of your next bridal show visit:

Register in Advance

Be sure to register or purchase tickets ahead of time. Not only does this save you time at the door, but many shows also offer early bird discounts or perks for signing up in advance.

Do Research Beforehand

Take some time to research the vendors before attending the show. Most events will provide a list of vendors in advance, so you can check out their websites and social media to see which ones catch your eye. If you’re already in the midst of wedding planning, make a list of what you still need to book. That way, you can focus on the vendors that align with your needs and make the most of your time at the show.

Create a Wedding Email

One of our favorite wedding planning tips? Set up a dedicated wedding email account. You’ll be asked for your email address constantly at a bridal show, which means your inbox is about to fill up fast. A separate account keeps all your vendor communication, quotes, confirmations, and follow-ups organized in one place. Looking for more planning tools? Be sure to check out our downloadable guides to stay organized every step of the way.

Bring a Friend

Whether you bring your future spouse, a best friend, or a trusted family member, make sure they’re clear on your goals for the show. Are you just gathering information, or do you plan on booking a few vendors on the spot? Having someone with you can make it easier to stay organized, ask questions, and keep track of the day. But keep in mind – sometimes too many people can get overwhelming, so choose your companion wisely.

Make a Day of It

Turn your bridal show visit into a fun outing by planning a meal beforehand. Showing up fueled means you’ll be focused and energized, not distracted by hunger pangs or hangry decisions. That said, maybe skip dessert. One of the best parts of any bridal show? The cake samples. And trust us – you’ll want to save room.

Bring a Bag

Expect to gather plenty of brochures, samples, and swag, so bring a bag that’s easy to carry. A small backpack or crossbody is perfect for keeping your hands free while having space for all the goodies. If you like to jot things down, pack a notebook, too. It’s a great way to keep track of ideas or vendors that stand out, especially when reviewing your photos and materials later on.

Wear Comfortable Shoes

You’ll be on your feet for most of the event, walking around to visit vendors, so wear comfortable shoes. There won’t be many places to sit or take breaks, so comfort is key if you plan on exploring the show thoroughly.

Stay Hydrated & Bring Snacks

While many bridal shows offer bite-sized wedding cakes and appetizers, food options can be limited. With long lines, few places to sit, and limited time for breaks, it’s a good idea to bring your own snacks if you plan on staying for more than an hour or two. Staying hydrated is just as important, so don’t forget a water bottle.

Take Your Time

Don’t feel like you need to meet every vendor at the show. Even experienced wedding planners don’t book everything in one day, so there’s no need to put that pressure on yourself. Factors like long lines or tight schedules may mean you can’t check everything off your list. Focus on what’s most important to you, and remember that you can always follow up with vendors after the show.

Be Honest With Each Vendor

Many vendors will likely hope you’ll book a package on the spot, but if you’re just browsing, be upfront about it. Let each vendor know you’re still in the early stages of planning and won’t be making any decisions that day. You’ll feel less stressed and less pressure to decide.

Ask Questions & Take Photos

This is your chance to vet vendors and ensure they’re the right fit for your big day. Don’t be afraid to ask questions – lots and lots of them! Also, take plenty of photos and notes. You’ll be talking to a lot of people, and these visuals and details will help you keep track of everyone and everything you see.
