At first glance, you wouldn’t know that Katie and Stephen’s nuptials took place at a family home and that is because their backyard wedding was anything but typical! The groom’s parent’s house and outskirts were transformed into an elegant space fit for such a special occasion. The ceremony, which took place on the family patio, held a simple quaintness that brings about such joy. As for the reception…let’s just say the details are so darn pretty! A delicate palette of soft pinks, peaches, ivory, and greenery brought color to the day, with gold chiavari chairs, table chargers, votives, and a plethora of signs adding that extra sparkle. Glowing candlelight sat atop the tables with a beautifully detailed white and gold cake by Bethel Bakery displayed nearby. The ever-popular cookie table lit up the room with sweetness as guests enjoyed entertainment from Steve Vance Electric Violin & DJ Music. Singing, dancing, and celebrating love beneath the bistro lights…what more could you ask for? It’s a day that makes us all sorts of happy! Considering your own backyard fete? About the Couple
We met online and Stephen proposed on a morning walk with our dog in the Allegheny Commons Park.
About the Wedding
We planned a big wedding at the University Club for April 2020. Three weeks before the big day, the COVID quarantine began. We postponed and rescheduled and looked for different venue options, but everything seemed to be working against us. We took a step back and realized that the only thing that really mattered was that we got married and celebrated with our families. With the help of our vendors, we pulled together the perfect day in Stephen’s parents’ backyard. The intimate atmosphere was filled with so much love and joy. Even though it was not the day that we had originally planned, it was better than we could ever imagined.
Favorite Moment
The ceremony. The patio was transformed into a beautiful space and my uncle officiated the wedding, which included a special tribute to our moms. Right before we had our first kiss as newlyweds, our moms gave us our last kiss to send us on our way to a life as husband and wife.
Our second favorite part was that our dog was able to be part of the day. In the original big plan, he wouldn’t have been there. It was so great to have him at the wedding with us!
