There’s something so romantic about an intimate wedding. Less “stuff” and more people, fewer frills and more moments. Simple affairs where family plays center stage deserve more attention; that’s why I’m so excited to show off Courtney and Alan’s big day. These two said I Do at Olive or Twist. The upstairs lounge of this downtown cocktail bar provided the perfect, cozy setting and it allowed for casual mingling, instead of the traditional reception ambiance. But just because these two opted to go small, don’t think they didn’t go BIG on a few details. Just WAIT until you see the ceremony backdrop! GreenSinner and EF Lighting joined forces to create a glittery, glowing standing statement piece that has me seeing stars. A few hints of black and gold, a metallic wedding cake, and a party that spilled out into the streets, this party has Pittsburgh written all over it. A special thanks to BNK Photo for sharing these great images with me!
From the bride…
Tell me about yourselves! When and how did you meet? How long have you been together? How did you get engaged? All the juicy details!
We met through a mutual friend on Cinco De Mayo almost three years ago at Mad Mex. We got engaged in November 2016, while vacationing in the Turks and Caicos islands. I had no idea he had anything planned. He had called my older brother to get his blessing prior to leaving for the vacation. He proposed with his grandmother’s ring, that was passed down to his mother, and now I have the honor of wearing it.
Describe the wedding and what inspired it. What was unique about it?
We had our ceremony and reception at Olive Or Twist. We opted not to have a bridal party. Our goal for our wedding was for it to feel like a Saturday night out for our friends and family. The venue was set with high top tables and couches giving it a “lounge” type feel and making it easy for guests to mingle with one another. For colors, we incorporated hints of black and gold throughout our décor and cake. GreenSinner and EF Lighting made the most amazing backdrop for our ceremony and beautiful flower arrangements throughout.
What was your favorite moment of the day?
My favorite moment of our wedding day was definitely the ceremony. It was intimate and so special for the both of us. Cathy, our pastor did an amazing job. It was so nice having all of our family and friends together as well!
Is there any advice you would give to other couples planning their big day?
It’s easy to get lost in all the details and stress of wedding planning and forget what it’s all really about. Our advice to other couples would be to keep it simple.
