If there ever was a venue perfectly suited for a shabby chic wedding day, it is Destiny Hill Farm. It is as if this rustic event space was built just for for Stacy and Timothy’s big day, which was styled with vintage, eclectic inspiration. After the bride and groom exchanged vows under a pergola decorated with dangling florals, guests enjoyed cocktails in the stables before moving to the barn for dinner and dancing. Most of the decor was mismatched items that Stacy and her mom had collected over the past year. Scouring Goodwill, flea markets, and even friends’ and family members’ collections, the pair was able to curate various centerpieces and vignettes of birdcages, books, colored and clear glass jars, lace doilies, vintage china, mercury glass, and hand-painted wooden table numbers. Add a draped ceiling, tissue paper poms poms, paper lanterns, and twinkle lights and you have a darling wedding reception. A few of my other favorite details?
- Invitations designed by the bride! Stacy’s graphic design and a little DIY printing make this stationery truly one of a kind!
- Mint green, light pink, lavender, baby blue, and even yellow…the bride wasn’t particular about a color scheme. But this sweet mix ended up being the perfect combination for a shabby chic themed affair!
- Speaking of mix and match, wait until you see the bridesmaids’ dresses! In a variety of styles, colors, and fabrics, these ladies fit right in with the look of the day.
- A display of old wedding photos from Stacy and Timothy’s parents, grandparents, and other relatives was a sweet reminder of the long-lasting love that surrounded the couple on their own wedding day!
- Dainty potted succulents doubled as both escort cards and favors. I love a thank you gift that lasts well after the last dance is over!
All of the girly, vintage-y aspects of this spring day were captured by Lauren Renee Designs. Enjoy every last airy and romantic image. I know I did.
From the bride…
When and how did you two meet?
We met in college at Pitt. We were actually in the same honors fraternity (nerdy, but true!) and that’s how we became friends.
Juicy details on the proposal, please! Where, when, how?
He took me on a picnic and packed all of my favorite foods. When we were done eating, he told me he had a present for me, but that he had to open it. He unwrapped the first Harry Potter book. I love reading (and Harry Potter!), so a few years earlier I had joked that I couldn’t marry him until he read the books. He told me read it for me and then opened it up to show me his favorite part. Inside was the ring in a square cut-out in the middle of the book! It was adorable and thoughtful and I instantly started crying.
Describe the wedding. The look, theme, style, colors, etc.
I wanted everything to be vintage and eclectic. We didn’t really care about the colors as much, as long as they fit into that theme.
What inspired your vision?
I love the look of vintage tea cups, books, etc. So we just took that style and turned into a wedding.
What made your wedding unique?
Most of the centerpieces were mismatched items that my mother and I collected from Goodwill, flea markets, and family/friends. We spent the year before the wedding finding cool, unique items that spoke to us…my mom especially. She was amazing!
I also did all of my own graphic design and drew a lot of the images, so they’re truly one of a kind!
What was your favorite moment of the day?
Seeing my husband’s face for the first time when I walked down the aisle. We hadn’t seen each other since the night before and he was just so excited.
I also loved right before the wedding when I started to get butterflies. My bridesmaids huddled together and did a really fun sports chant to pump me up. It was so funny and just made me really grateful to be surrounded by such amazing girls.
Bride to Bride
What advice would you give to other Burgh Brides planning their big day?
Don’t sweat the small stuff and follow your heart. It’s too easy to get caught up trying to please everyone else. It’s your day, so do what feels right to you. You might have to make some small sacrifices, but make sure your day is truly an expression of you!
Any must haves, must dos, or can’t live withouts? Anything you would do differently?
Everything was perfect! All we wanted was to have a fun day that everyone enjoyed and I think we got exactly that!
