A bountiful bouquet in a rainbow of springtime colors set the tone for this swoon-worthy Phipps Conservatory wedding. Brad and Quinn aimed to recreate the garden vibes they fell in love with during past trips to Europe. To do so, they teamed up with Community Flower Shop who created a divine floral masterpiece in shades of peach, coral, lavender, yellow, and blue. Quinn looked like an absolute dream as she walked down the aisle in an off-the-shoulder Martina Liana wedding dress from Bridal Beginning. The dreaminess continued in the reception space, where EF Lighting hung bistro lights adorned with fresh greens, creating an intimate and magical feel. A gold leaf Bethel Bakery wedding cake, botanical inspired Minted stationery, cocktail napkins featuring their beloved cat, and a colorfully dressed tables thanks to Lendable Linens are just a few of the other notable details. About the Couple
Brad and I met at a wedding in 2017 where he was the best man and I was a guest. We were introduced on the dance floor where Brad, perhaps a few drinks deep, loudly yelled, “How do I know you?!” And the rest is history. Upon discovering that we grew up 10 minutes away from one another and shared several mutual friends, we became fairly certain our paths crossed once or twice prior to 2017. We just must not have left a lasting impression on one another. Timing is everything.
In January 2021, after over three years of dating and a few failed attempts due to COVID-19 restrictions, Brad planned a double date night with the same couple whose wedding we met at. While we were walking around downtown Pittsburgh heading to dinner, our friends told Brad and me to get together for a photo. As we posed, Brad got down on one knee and asked me to marry him! He also surprised me by having my best friend and her husband hide across the street to take photos of the proposal. Afterward, we all spent the night celebrating together. It was so special and a day we’ll never forget!
About the Wedding
While we were dating, Phipps Conservatory was one of our favorite date night spots. When it came time to plan our wedding, we knew that’s where we wanted to get married. Our overall wedding theme was a romantic, dreamy springtime garden with lots of bright pastel florals – french blue and gold accents with glowy candlelight. We both love to travel and were inspired by the beautiful European gardens we’ve visited, including my own grandmother’s garden in Germany.
What’s great about having a wedding at Phipps is that the entire venue is already lush with flowers and exotic plants, so we didn’t need to go too crazy with decor. We worked with Community Flower Shop to create the most stunning spring floral arrangements and a ceremony arch that we repurposed for our sweetheart table during the reception. EF Lighting also designed bistro string lights draped with greenery, which were hung over our dance floor. It was so magical!
While sticking to our theme, we also wanted to incorporate personalized details throughout our wedding, such as cocktail napkins featuring a portrait of our cat, Ollie, menu cards with wax seals baring our initials, and lots of custom signage, including one with a quote from our favorite show, “The Office.”
Favorite Moment
What would Pittsburgh be without unpredictable weather? After a day of sunny blue skies, a stray thunderstorm rolled in halfway through our outdoor ceremony as we were reading our vows, and we had to quickly move the rest of the ceremony indoors. We got completely soaked, my dress was covered in mud, but honestly, we wouldn’t have had it any other way! Our wedding day was so meticulously planned down the minute, as most are, and this one unexpected, rom-com movie-esque moment turned out to be our favorite of the day. Plus, they say rain on your wedding day is good luck!
