Today’s engagement shoot at Brick & Barrel by Kathryn Hyslop Photography serves as inspiration for any couple unsure of how to plan their Pittsburgh engagement photo session. Becca and Jason knew they’d feel perfectly at home at their favorite date night spot. Brick & Barrel Restaurant happily opened its doors to the couple on a night when they were closed, allowing Becca and Jason to sip cocktails in a comfortable, familiar setting. Not to mention Becca made posing on a barstool look effortless! The snowy shoot was an added bonus, as photographer Kathryn noted that the couple was on the “snow list” for the season. When there was perfect weather for a winter engagement session, Becca and Jason happened to be available and took outdoor photos with a backdrop of snowy pines at Hartwood Acres. This time, their dog tagged along for the session, sporting an engagement-appropriate bandana that read, “My humans are getting married.”

About the Couple
Becca and Jason grew up seeing each other occasionally, as their parents were longtime friends. After years of connecting on social media and running into each other from time to time, Jason messaged Becca on Facebook, and their fun conversations soon led to a date.
One day, Jason told Becca that his boss had won tickets for a plane tour of the city but was unable to use them, so he offered the tickets to Jason and Becca. Becca didn’t question the story. Jason took her to Butler Airport, where her grandfather used to fly planes, and where Jason had arranged a private flight with a pilot. After landing, Jason got down on one knee and proposed. He then took Becca to her mother’s house to celebrate, where many of their family members were waiting. Becca recalled, “It was so special and an amazing start to our life together.”

About the Shoot
From the photographer…
The couple wanted to take photos at their favorite date night spot. Fortunately, the restaurant was so lovely and graciously invited us to use the space on a night when they were closed. We had the entire bar to ourselves for the shoot. Becca and Jason enjoyed a drink while I captured the drama of the setting. For the snowy part of their session, we really lucked out! Becca and Jason were on my “snow list” for the year, and when we had a good snowfall, they happened to be available. Playing with their pup in the snow was definitely a highlight!
