Prepare to be swept off your feet by today’s radiant and romantic wedding at Oakmont Country Club. The breathtaking nuptials of Taylor and Joey will leave you swooning! The bride looked absolutely stunning in her minimalist fit and flare Martina Liana wedding dress, which was tastefully accessorized with pieces from Clarissa Boutique. Her makeup by See Jane Blush and updo by Simply Captivating Salon were the perfect finishing touches. Of course, we can’t leave out the groom. He looked slick and dapper in his custom black tuxedo from Surmesur Custom Menswear. The couple exchanged their vows at Heinz Chapel before inviting guests to a reception that was truly awe-inspiring. After the ceremony, family and friends were greeted into the reception space by chandeliers enrobed in ruscus greenery, a plethora of blooms in soft pink and white from Stems by Syd, and the warm flicker of candlelight. Their custom monogram by Fresh Cut Prints was a must-have and a special touch to the couple’s unforgettable day. About the Couple
Joey, a Pittsburgh native and Taylor, originally from Columbus, met on March 12, 2011 in one of the most unique (and random) places possible – a Courtyard Marriott swimming pool in Worthington, OH.
Before FaceTime existed, the couple would spend countless hours video chatting on Skype and they quickly became best friends. On those calls, Joey used to serenade Taylor with “I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)” by The Proclaimers, and to this day, nothing brings a smile to their faces quite like that song. Within weeks of meeting, Taylor knew Joey was “the one”, but didn’t know how their long-distance friendship would ever blossom into a relationship. After all, they were 14 and 17 years old. From 2011 to 2016, Taylor and Joey remained close, always supporting one another through life’s milestones. This included two high school graduations, Taylor’s college graduation in 2015, and Joey’s junior hockey career, which took them all over the country. The pair officially started dating long-distance on August 28, 2016, with Taylor in Columbus and Joey in Syracuse, NY. After living in different states for the majority of their relationship, the couple finally bridged the gap when Taylor moved to Pittsburgh in October 2018.
On November 28, 2020 Joey lured Taylor to downtown Columbus under the pretenses of a family photoshoot where instead, he got down on one knee and popped the question. Afterwards, family and friends started screaming in celebration as they watched from afar.
About the Wedding
From the bride…
Joey and I are pretty traditional, and we both envisioned a timeless, classic, elegant, and romantic wedding day. I’m inspired by the sophistication and charm of southern weddings and pulled a lot of inspiration from southern brides, wedding planners, photographers, florists, etc. From the beginning, we knew we didn’t want a theme or vibrant colors and opted for shades of neutrals and clean lines. I love candlelight and florals, which were also a priority for us. My florist and I had several iterations of our plan before we finally settled on beautiful ivory, beige and taupe florals with pops of coral. I also love greenery, so the ruscus we added throughout helped bring in the touch of romance.
My vision was to have a beautiful, love-filled day surrounded by all of our favorite people. About 35% of our guests were from out of town, so the cookie table was an absolute hit.
One unique element I was proud of was our branding. Stationery was extremely important to me and from the very beginning, I knew I wanted a monogram. We leveraged our monogram in every area we could, and Erin at Fresh Cut Prints ensured our entire suite was perfect. I personally love wedding day design and poured my heart into every detail of our big day. Lastly, we donated our flowers to Scent With Love, and hope they brought joy to those in the community.
Favorite Moment
The ceremony. The moment I rounded the corner at Heinz Chapel and saw Joey for the first time is a memory I will never forget. He was completely overcome with emotion, which was something I had dreamed of. Joey really wanted to keep the day traditional, so we opted not to do a first look. My brother, whom we are very close to, officiated our wedding. My nieces and nephews were our ring bearers and flower girls, and they stole the show. We had an unplugged ceremony and every one of our guests followed our wishes – not a cellphone in sight! We wrote our own vows, which ironically started out almost identically. It was everything I dreamed of and so much more.
