Today’s October wedding at the Sheraton Pittsburgh Airport kicked the stereotypical fall decor to the curb. Instead, this couple put an original spin on their autumn soiree that we are LIVING for! Suzanne and Kyle opted for a palette of mixed metallics fused with purples and greens that gave their offbeat vibe that “wow” factor. Playing off of the inspired combination, bridesmaids were dressed in mismatched gowns of silver sequins and eggplant velvet that paired perfectly with their bouquets of eucalyptus, white tea roses, and peek-a-boo lavender hues made by Parkway Florist. Modern backdrops and rooftop photos throughout downtown Pittsburgh followed the traditional ceremony, and although the rain was coming down, it brought about a light in the sky that made their photos that much more romantic! Marble and metallic gold wedding signs directed guests throughout the celebration – one even to the candy bar, which included the bride and groom’s favorites plus some Halloween treats. The sweetness only continued with their funky cake design from Signature Desserts that we imagine aided in the energy to boogie the night away! Captured under the artistic eye of Kristen Wynn Photography, these photos are downright amazing!
About the Couple
Kyle and I met at my graduation from the University of Pittsburgh in 2012. We had a mutual friend who was also graduating and we all met up after the ceremony. We quickly connected as friends and it turned into a relationship soon after. We were dating just shy of six years when we got engaged in August 2018. We were on vacation in Orca’s Island off the coast of Washington state and on a hike in the beautiful Pacific Northwest when Kyle proposed in front of a waterfall! I kind of had a feeling that it was going to happen but was truly surprised!
About the Wedding
When we chose October 26 for our wedding day, the one thing that was consistent is that we didn’t want it to feel like a typical fall wedding with pumpkins, leaves, and warm colors. We wanted a modern, elegant feel and our look consisted of marble, mixed metallics, and small touches of purple and green, which happen to be our favorite colors! One of the purple bridesmaid dresses featured a velvet top which was perfect for the elegant touch. The second bridesmaid dress was a silvery taupe color and the top featured subtle sequins, which also went perfectly with our theme.
In addition to a cookie table, we also made sure to have a candy table since we both love candy. We included a lot of our favorites and as a slight nod to Halloween – which was right around the corner – we had candy corn and a skeleton bride and groom hiding on the table as well.
We also included a custom bobblehead of the two of us at our guestbook table. Kyle is a huge Pirates fan and has quite the collection of bobbleheads, so I got one made of us for our wedding day!
Favorite Moment
It’s hard to choose a favorite moment but after the ceremony, we were truly able to relax and have fun when we took pictures downtown. We were in a bit of a time crunch and there was traffic downtown so the entire bridal party had to walk to the different locations for photos. It was fun hearing random people shout congratulations as we walked by and we actually saw a few friends too!
Our photographer and her assistant made this time so relaxing and fun and they made sure to get so many beautiful photographs, even in the rain!
