Inspired by the bride’s favorite colors, this coral, gold, and mint green wedding is cool, casual, and incredibly cute. Lily and Jordan wanted a laid back affair that wouldn’t distract from the built-in gorgeousness of their ceremony and reception venue – Phipps Conservatory. After a ceremony in the lush garden, the party moved to a tent adorned with bistro lights and a pastel rainbow of paper lanterns. Bright coral, orange, magenta and yellow flowers in metallic gold vases from The Blue Daisy Floral Designs popped against the crisp white linens while natural wooden accents and other rustic chic details gave the day it’s comfy vibe. All of the guests felt right at home with handmade corn hole boards (courtesy of the groom!) and a suspended antique gold frame that served as a “photo booth”. Even the couple’s dog made an appearance! With its air of easiness and its bright bursts of color, Lily and Jordan’s nuptials will leave you with a serious case of wedding envy. Enjoy all of the prettiness captured by Breanna Elizabeth Photography!
From the bride…
When and how did you too meet?
Jordan and I met in June 2014 by complete chance! I decided to go for a quick run around the track a block from my apartment, which happened to be where Jordan was playing Ultimate Frisbee with some friends. While running around the track, I noticed this cute guy and he apparently noticed me too! When I finished my run and began walking home, I noticed out of the corner of my eye that he was getting up and heading to his car and I waved hello. He said hi, I got butterflies, and we’ve been together since!
Juicy details on the proposal, please! Where, when, how?
I will begin this story by admitting that I am a very oblivious person. Jordan’s friend (who is also a photographer) came into town with his wife for the weekend. We took them around town to some of our favorite Pittsburgh places, which happened to be places important to our relationship – D’s in Regent Square (our first date), the Aviary (our first Valentine’s Day), and Tamari (our first big date night). On Saturday night, I thought we were going to my parents’ house for a belated birthday party for my cousin Emily. ordan and his friends arrived early, and my dad (who was also in on the surprise) sent us up to my grandma’s house to grab some more wine. Wine is a big deal for my family -we make our own wine and my dad and siblings helped build my grandparents’ wine cellar back in the 60’s. While in our family’s wine cellar, Jordan surprised me and proposed while his friend took some amazing pictures. I was completely surprised! I said yes, and we came back to my parents’ house to an engagement party with all our local friends and family!
Describe the look, theme, style, and colors of the wedding.
We wanted something laid back, airy, and pretty that wouldn’t compete with the gorgeous gardens that Phipps already provides. We went with my favorite colors (mint, coral, gold) and natural wood accents to really let the garden shine.
What inspired the vision?
I’m from Pittsburgh and he’s from Lancaster. We wanted to incorporate both of our roots into our day in a way that felt true to who we are as a couple. We chose beautiful flowers and barnyard chic elements like wood boxes and wildflower seed favors.
What made the wedding unique?
My dad and honorary uncle played the piano for our ceremony, my aunts sang a Mister Rogers song for a reading, our dog walker snuck our dog Lucy in to say hi during the reception, and Jordan made corn hole boards to give dance floor-averse guests an alternative option. Our DJ was a friend so we were able to really customize our music selection, which was important to me.
What was your favorite moment of the day?
The whole day was so full of love, laughter, and happiness – your wedding day is one of the only days you’ll be surrounded by everyone you love in one place. It is such a magical feeling to look around and see nothing but love and joy. I loved the entire day, but the highlight for me hands down was saying “I do” to the most amazing man I know in front of everyone we love.
What advice would you give to other Burgh Brides planning their big day?
Be honest with yourself and surround yourself with people who will be supportive, but who also know you well. I am a notorious procrastinator, so I made sure to hire a wedding planner who would keep me honest with deadlines and relied on my recently-married friends for advice and sometimes a reality check.
Also, involve the groom! Your wedding day belongs to both of you, and planning with Jordan helped our day feel truly “ours” and authentic.
