Fresh, light, and renewing, this spring inspired wedding styled shoot is exactly what we all need after a seemingly never-ending winter. With tons of green and white, it’s bound to leave you feeling rejuvenated. Dawn Derbyshire Photography teamed up with an all-star team of vendors – including Burgh Brides own Mixed with Love Cake & Cookie Co., Vintage Alley Rentals, Sapphire & Lace Design, and Eventioneers – to mix industrial grit with antique pieces and contemporary trends. Vintage Alley’s own studio, with it’s Edison bulb lighting, exposed ductwork and white cinderblock walls, served as a perfectly raw backdrop. With the help of lush (and I mean luuuuuush) floral arrangements of ferns, eucalyptus, ranunculus, tulips, celosia, and obscure crocosmia pods, Sapphire & Lace transformed the space into a living forest. The foliage didn’t stop there; it inspired the hand-painted stationery from Oh Joyful Day. Featuring watercolor calligraphy and worn-in edges, the paper provided an organic touch. Green marble pieces served as escort cards, directing eyes to a wooden table adorned with details. Black taper candles, floral runners, geometric menu cards, terrarium table numbers, and gold-rimmed dinnerware worked together in a moody and magical way. Speaking of magic…THAT DRESS. The piece de resistance of this shoot is 100% hands-down the green and beige dip down gown. It’s modern, elegant, and striking all at the same time. Combing industrial and distressed vibes with bold design choices and a color palette fit for spring, this styled shoot is like a breath of fresh air. And I’m inhaling as deeply as I can.
From the photographer…
When Trish from Vintage Alley Rentals approached me about checking out her new space for a potential styled shoot, I jumped at the chance. Seeing the raw, industrial warehouse gave me the idea to stretch my creative muscles and do something out of my normal boho/barn-loving style. Taking the idea of old and new, mixing vintage and industrial with trendy and classic, Melissa from Devoted to You stepped in and helped my vision come to life.
I feel like more and more industrial venues are popping up in our city and I wanted to show how some of Trish’s vintage pieces, paired with lush florals and moody lighting, could all come together to transform a rough blank space. Mixing Trish’s gorgeous farm table, vintage green glassware, and luxurious black and gold couch with her industrial lighting and mixed metal chairs created a good base for the floral wizards over at Sapphire and Lace to start working their magic. They created a beautiful structure for the ceremony space that worked against the simple white cinderblock wall accented by the industrial metal chairs. Bringing more mixed metallics into the boutonnière, they also softened up the groom’s black-on-black look with a huge, textured bouquet for the bride. Moving to the cake and reception table, they added hanging greenery to the industrial lighting from Vintage Alley Rentals, wrapping each light and suspending them from the railings above. The table was filled with flowers – from the vintage glassware and brass geometric vases overflowing with greenery and flowers, to the gold flatware wrapped in vines. To add a moody vibe, they lit beautiful black tapered candles. To add more black to the table, Victoria from Oh Joyful Day created beautiful black ribbons to wrap around the plates as place settings, and hand-wrote the table number on brass geometric containers. Place cards made from green marble matched perfectly with the greenery filled shoot, complete with gold edged geometric thank you notes as favors. To go with the gorgeous elements on the table, Victoria also created a hand-painted invitation suite, complete with painted greenery on fun, textured paper. Mixed with Love made some beautiful, simple, floral cupcakes and a modern cake which Sapphire and Lace added a fun floral detail to. Oh Joyful Day created a cute little sign to top off the table!
To keep the wardrobe fitting the feel of the shoot, we kept the clothing and accessories modern, letting the floral elements add some softness. The bride rocked fun gold fern hairpins and modern geometric earrings from Sparrow Station, simple rose gold heels, and a fun gold and marble geometric “engagement” ring. Her accessories, hair and makeup were kept simple to put the focus on both her gorgeous bouquet and the modern, structured, beige and green dip dyed dress. To keep with the modern and sleek look, the groom wore a slim fit, black-on-black suit with a subtle striped detail.
