This Washington’s Landing engagement session complete with glamorous fashion and one adorable couple is bound to leave you smitten! Soonly-weds Mia and Brett met in the United States Army Reserve, which took them to different destinations throughout the world during their first year together. However, their love for one another was strong and led them to settling down together in Pittsburgh, where Brett popped the question on the first night in their first home together. As they sought out a place to capture their engagement photos, they landed upon the iconic Pittsburgh waterfront location, which incorporated a sense of Brett’s hometown in Rhode Island. To contrast the grit and urban feel of their surrounding, the couple channeled Mia’s girly-girl style and dressed things up quite a bit. Brett looked dashing in his custom suit, which was made in Jordan, and Mia stunned in an ice blue dress featuring a bedazzled bodice and an airy skirt with a subtly sexy slit. If there was a Best Dressed award, it would certainly go to these two! Alyssa Vanston Photography was able to document Mia and Brett’s authentic connection and adoration for each other, as well as some fancy threads in the process. We hope you appreciate the beauty of these photos as much as we do!
About the Couple
Brett and Mia met in the United States Army Reserve in 2019. Mia graduated from the Virginia Military Institute in May 2018 and went to Basic Officer Leaders Course (BOLC). While there, Mia was offered a job and transferred to the 655 Regional Support Group (RSG). Brett had been with the 655 RSG for a few years at that point. After a few months of subtle flirting, they went on our first date on May 1, 2019.
In late May 2019, they deployed to the Middle East where they spent the first year of their relationship and had so many unique experiences. They returned to the United States in April 2020. Brett lived in Rhode Island and Mia lived in Pennsylvania. Before they got home, Brett made the decision to move to Pennsylvania to be with Mia. On February 6, 2021 they moved into their home together. That night, once they got in bed, Brett said, “I do not think I can be in this house with you as my girlfriend.” Mia, not in the mood for any fake proposal jokes, said “Yeah, yeah, maybe one day.” Before Mia knew it, Brett was on the other side of the bed, down on one knee, with a blue Tiffany box. Mia was in complete and utter shock. The next day they celebrated the engagement with Mia’s parents.
About the Session
Brett and Mia really wanted engagement photos that encompassed the city of Pittsburgh, but also had little touches of Rhode Island, like in the water. Mia is extremely girly and has always loved dressing up. She knew she wanted to do a formal outfit and a casual outfit for the shoot. Mia’s dress was from Amazon and Brett wore a a custom tailored suit from Jordan. Mia paired her dress with jewelry from her mom’s jewelry business.
