Now you know this wedding blogger is totally loving this engagement session at some of Pittsburgh’s most famous sites…
Pittsburgh is famous for a lot of things. Steel. Six Super Bowl rings. French fries on sandwiches. You know…all the important things in life. But what do I personally love the most about our city? The landscape. You can go from mountaintops to waterfronts to urban gridlock to green spaces pretty quickly (and you might even take an incline to get there). That’s what makes us so special. Pittsburgh is varied and unique and full of surprises. Put them all into one engagement session and I’m one happy yinzer. Laura and Joe took in some of the best sites that Pittsburgh has to offer when they shot their pre-wedding photos with Ayres Photography. From Mount Washington to Station Square to the Clemente Bridge to Heinz Field, and so many places in between, this soon-to-be-married couple wanted to pay homage to the city where they fell in love and started their life together. I’d say mission accomplished. Pittsburgh, you’ve never looked better.
From the photographer…
When and how did the these two meet?
Joe and Laura met through a mutual friend/family member who thought they would make the perfect couple. The matchmaker is Laura’s cousin and one of Joe’s best friends. When asked about the possibility of a set-up, Laura responded she was “too busy” for a boyfriend, and Joe (like a typical man) asked to see a picture. Well, he must have liked what he saw because two years later he popped the question!
Juicy details on the proposal, please! Where, when, how?
The proposal was a complete surprise! Joe planned to propose on New Years Eve in Buffalo, where they spend each year celebrating with Laura’s closest friends. Because the couple lives in Pittsburgh, it was important to Joe that the proposal would be in a location that was special to Laura. In between a romantic dinner and a night-long celebration, Joe asked Laura to spend the rest of her life with him! The actual proposal was just the two of them – where they are most comfortable – and was celebrated by all immediately following. To add to the surprise, Laura’s brother proposed to his girlfriend of 10 years that same night, and the two couples celebrated together into the early morning hours.
Describe the engagement session.
Joe and Laura choose to have their engagement shoot in Pittsburgh because it is the city where they met, fell in love, and began to build a life together. Laura had always dreamed of getting married near her childhood summer cottage at Chautauqua Lake in New York, so they knew the wedding would be out of town. The city of Pittsburgh was the perfect place to capture the spirit of their relationship. Shooting on Mount Washington, on the incline, and along the overlook was the obvious choice, not only for its stunning views, but it is also the neighborhood where they couple purchased their first home together. Including Penny, their adorable Great Dane puppy, was probably the best decision of them all; she absolutely stole the show! Since the couple is drawn to the water, the riverfront and the underside of the bridges of the Steel City made the perfect background to showcase their happiness. And don’t forget their mutual love of sports, although not the same teams! A friendly rivalry between the Buffalo Bills and Pittsburgh Steelers divides the house each Sunday…can you guess who Penny roots for!?
