There’s something so special about elopements. And when they’re as romantic and magical as Dallas and Joe’s elopement at Phipps Conservatory, it makes our hearts gush THAT much more! An intimate ceremony in the Broderie Room of this garden Pittsburgh wedding venue surrounded by immediate family, a sweet exchange of their vows, and the two became husband and wife. But there’s a catch – it was all a TOTAL SURPRISE! The couple told their family they were invited to a gala honoring Dallas, owner of Dallas Beauty Lounge, for an award. They even made mock invitations for the event – SO clever! Needless to say there were tears of happiness for such an exciting moment. A few weeks later, the couple held an “engagement party” for all their friends and family…only to announce they had actually already gotten married! The announcement was even accompanied by a sweet video of their wedding, produced by Pictory Productions. Umm we’re not crying, you’re crying. There’s so much more to say about this wedding, (like how Dallas’s tiara is perfection and the perfect fairytale accoutrement), but these photos captured by Brittany Lee Photography say it all! Keep scrolling to see more of this charming “you’re never going to see this plot twist coming” wedding.
About the Couple
Joe and I grew up five minutes away from each other our whole lives but didn’t meet until we both were in college. I went to Point Park (city girl) and he went to W&J (genius) and we met in 2011. He sent me a message on Facebook and asked to meet up…we got coffee at Starbucks and were inseparable. After Joe graduated college, he moved to Ohio for a few years and we couldn’t make the long distance work. We met on and off for coffee at the same Starbucks every 6 – 12 months. We met again for coffee in the summer of 2018 and that was the right time for us. That night, we met for drinks and we haven’t been apart since! We got engaged four months later.
We like to travel the weekends we don’t have Davis (my baby boy). So we had already planned a little weekend trip to Denver for the day after Thanksgiving. With a big snow storm coming that was unplanned, Joe moved the proposal up and basically proposed a few hours after we landed – on top of the tallest mountain, with amazing views, the best Denver wedding photographer, and all the little things in between. There’s like literally nothing he didn’t think of.
About the Wedding
From the photographer…
Dallas and Joe invited their family to a made-up “gala event” in honor of Dallas. Their families were told to dress in formal attire, as this was a “big deal” for the entrepreneur. With a little extra creativity, the couple had sent out fictitious invitations and emails – and both families completely fell for it.
Upon arrival, the families were dressed formally, as the invitations suggested. As they walked through the ballroom doors, their faces went from huge excitement-filled smiles to confused. Dallas and Joe broke the news that there was no “gala event” and that all of the secrets were organized with hope to include their immediate families into their elopement plans. Everyone was overcome with shock and tears. It was truly a once-in-a-lifetime moment.
The couple got ready with their families separately, and were then shuttled to Phipps Conservatory. Dallas looked stunning in her princess wedding gown and custom tiara, that only she could pull off. Joe was dressed to the nines in an all-black timeless suit. Her florals arrangements were wild, colorful, and coordinated perfectly with the uplighting and low-hanging lights fixed in the main lobby room of the conservatory, where the majority of their bridal photos were taken. She even had custom floral pieces made for a velvet couch she had rented. Every single detail reflected Dallas’s creativity and the couple’s uniqueness.
A few weeks later, the couple’s friends and extended family arrived for an “engagement party” that really turned out to be an elopement celebration. The venue was dressed in the most romantic of colors – deep reds, plums, pinks, and violets – with vintage pieces and modern elements abounding. It was romantic, sexy, and such a gorgeous reflection of this couple. Oh, and it was the BEST.SURPRISE.EVER!

My personal favorite moment was when Dallas and Joe’s families showed up, thinking they were attending a gala event, only to find out that they were attending a wedding! Dallas and Joe were so nervous before their families walked through the doors. They had no idea how they were all going to react. After they broke the news, shock filled the room and every single person had tears in their eyes. But what was even cooler was watching the rest of their families and friends find out during the “engagement party” weeks later. The entire room gasped and stood up in excitement. It was amazing.
