Susan and Brittany poured their love of art into creating a unique wedding shower theme, drawing inspiration from the rich colors, heavy textures, and still-life paintings of the Dutch Masters. While the couple knew The Mansions on Fifth’s historic and vintage charm would enhance their theme, they had no idea how much their bridesmaids were planning behind the scenes. Their friends crafted everything from the stationery to the decor to the flowers. Adding an extra touch of surprise, they also arranged for a photographer, with Ash Coniglio’s imagery capturing the artistic vision of the day. The room featured dark wooden interiors and vintage lighting, setting the perfect mood as the group enjoyed bite-sized sandwiches and fine beverages. A homemade cake was layered with fluffy icing and fresh fruits for a decadent touch. Florals danced along the hearth, while table arrangements were designed to mirror the classic painted works of the Dutch Masters. Susan and Brittany looked ultra-fashionable in two uniquely textured ivory dresses, complemented by designer accessories, embodying their creative spirit and style.
About the Couple
Brittany and Susan’s story began in high school, and over fifteen years later, it continues to unfold. Over the years, they’ve faced the challenges of being an LGBTQIA+ couple, yet their determination to grow together has remained unwavering.
Susan proposed to Brittany on a snow-covered mountain at Seven Springs Resort. She wrote a heartfelt poem for her fiancée and got down on one knee, with “So This Is Love” from Cinderella playing in the background. The falling snow provided the perfect mood for such a beautiful moment.
Not to be outdone, Brittany decided to propose as well. On Susan’s next birthday, Brittany transformed their entire backyard into a scene from Disney’s Tangled, inspired by the theme of her own proposal. Paper lanterns adorned the yard, glowing softly from carefully strung lines. It was a magical sight that had Susan in tears even before Brittany could pop the question.

After a brainstorming session with their bridesmaids, Brittany and Susan decided on a Dutch Masters theme to reflect their shared creativity and love of art. The Mansions On Fifth proved to be the perfect venue to bring that vision to life.
Inspired by the rich colors, heavy textures, and florals of Dutch Masters still-life paintings, the venue’s natural beauty and rich interior meant little extra decor was needed. But the bridesmaids had other plans. Instead of hiring vendors, they took it upon themselves to source and create stunning florals, stationery, gift baskets, guestbook postcards, desserts, and more. To top it all off, they secretly booked a photographer to capture the beauty and love of the day.

We felt incredibly loved by the entire event, as neither of us had expected anything at this level. Walking in and seeing everything come together was an amazing feeling. Our favorite moment, though bittersweet, was the toast to Brittany’s mother, Debbie, who passed away prior to our shower. Debbie was deeply loved and adored by us all, and the love in the room was palpable in that moment.
