Winter and a wedding don’t naturally go together, especially in Pittsburgh. But this styled shoot should be enough to convince you that getting married in the cold months can be quite beautiful. An A-list team of vendors, including Burgh Brides friends Jenni Grace Photography, Purple Wagon Designs, and The Blue Daisy Floral Designs, came together to create wedding day inspiration that is both cozy and bold. The secret ingredient? Blending bright colors to contrast against the gray, cold Pittsburgh winter, but yet also embracing it. The design began with a venue that would showcase the gorgeous city skyline – the Carnegie Science Center. From their spaces both indoor and out, you get a breathtaking view unlike few others in the city. Next came a vibrant palette of magenta, red, navy, and mixed metallics. Eye catching florals were in the form of centerpieces of varying shapes and heights and one hell of a bridal bouquet. Just wait until you see that pop of color against a crisp, white wedding dress! To top it all off, the couple posed wrapped in a plaid, wool blanket while enjoying a rooftop DIY s’mores bar. Warm and exciting, this styled shoot is guaranteed to make you reconsider that summer wedding.
From the event designer…
Imagining a winter wedding in Pittsburgh can seem out of reach when you consider the ever-changing and unpredictable winters that we endure, but it doesn’t have to be! Our city is absolutely gorgeous in any season and we have some of the most beautifully unique venues that will allow you to execute a winter wedding to perfection!
Going into this styled shoot, we wanted to make sure that we chose the perfect venue that allowed us to showcase all that we wanted to highlight…a Pittsburgh city backdrop, an urban, sophisticated feel, deep bold colors, and a sense of warmth amidst the cold. The Carnegie Science Center gave us the perfect opportunity to do all of the above! The biggest challenge was making sure to create a perfect blend of silvers and golds on the table, mixing it with the red and midnight blue and NOT making it feel patriotic. The trick was to stay away from any white and really play into and blend each element that was on and around the table. The bold colors we chose for flowers were stunning and the perfect fit for the look we wanted to create. And bringing in the s’mores bar and having it strategically set up on the rooftop of the Science Center with the city as the backdrop, along with wrapping our couple in a a cozy winter blanket, created that perfect sense of warmth even though it was cold outside.
