Tradition accompanied modernity at Sarah and Derrick’s Circuit Center wedding that is as classic as it is romantic! The planning of their wedding sparked a walk down memory lane, inspiring the couple to weave family heirlooms into the details. One way this happened was by incorporating Sarah’s mother’s wedding dress into the bride’s hair piece. Her look was completed by a pretty lace off-the-shoulder Martina Liana gown from Bridal Beginning and a fresh, glowing face from JL Makeup Studio & Beauty Boutique. A pastel color palette of sage, lavender, and peach gave way to a soft, soothing aesthetic, which was highlighted through pocket folder invitations by Purple Wagon Designs, flowy sage bridesmaid dresses, and perfectly placed floral arrangements by Sapphire & Lace Design. Textured linens, a custom cake design, and of course the traditional Pittsburgh cookie table rounded out the details of the day. This celebration was filled with emotion from that first glance down the aisle to the celebration with friends and family in the glowing ballroom. Enjoy these images from Krystal Healy Photography that take the expressions “something old” and “something new” to heart!
About the Couple
Derrick and I met at the end of fall 2016 through an online dating app! He had just moved to Pittsburgh and was taking a job as a full time football coach, and I had just started working as a nurse.
We got engaged in July 2018 standing on the football field where he coaches. Little did I know, both families were in on the surprise, photographing the whole thing from the press box and surprising us with a celebration at our favorite restaurant!
About the Wedding
I based our wedding off of the colors of sage, lavender, and peach, with accents of gold and champagne. Green has always been my favorite color, and I wanted colors that accented that, making the overall theme soft and romantic.
What made it unique was the traditional and nostalgic feeling that happened to come along as we planned the wedding. It was so sweet and memorable to reflect on other family members’ weddings as we planned ours. I got to walk down memory lane with my mother, mother-in-law, aunts, cousins, and friends. I was all about bringing in family history, starting with using lace from my mother’s dress on my headpiece. We planned everything to reflect a traditional wedding with an updated feel, complete with a Pittsburgh cookie table. My photographer and videographer were AMAZING at capturing the nostalgia with beautiful pictures and video.
Favorite Moment
My favorite moment of the day was when the doors opened for me at our ceremony and I saw my husband from a distance start to cry! Of course, it made me (and several other guests, from what I’ve been told) start to get emotional as well. I was so nervous about what to do in that moment, but when it happened, it was truly magical. I will never forget that walk down the aisle with my dad (who I didn’t know was ALSO crying), and the feeling I had in that moment. It was surreal and overwhelming with love. I will also always cherish getting ready and putting on my dress with my mom and two sisters, and having my dad see me in my dress. It was a moment of calm before the whirlwind day.
