Floral getting-ready robes, mismatched bridesmaids dresses, lots of palette-perfect florals, invitations designed by the bride herself, and even a Marine’s dress blues for good measure – this wedding is will leave you feeling anything but blue (See what I did there?). It’s the perfect combination of serenity, cornflower, and even navy. Heather and Rob’s May affair took place at the Gathering Place at Darlington Lake, which provided a charming background for the rustic chic elements. What started with a gazebo ceremony and ended with a barn reception, was accented with craft paper, lanterns, yarn table numbers, and wooden details. Because the happy couple met at a baseball tournament, Heather even surprised her new hubby with a huge “flag” made out of baseballs. It’s thoughtful touches like this that made their wedding day so unique while the use of varying shades made it so inspirational. How’s this for something blue? From the photographer…
When and how did the couple meet?
Heather and Rob met in Arizona at a volunteer baseball tournament. Rob was there to umpire and he got in line for a caddy to drive him to his designated field. He noticed that there was a girl who had all of the umpires lined up and was making them practice their stances and catches (pretty intensely). He thought, “There is NO way you are getting me to do that!” But in the back of his head, he wanted to get to know the headstrong girl that was taking charge and taking this sport seriously. After a long day of volunteering, and trying to secretly find out more about this girl, he spotted her best friend. He quickly approached her and was able to learn lots about this girl named Heather…even where she would be that night! She was not an easy one to get, but once he finally did, it was so worth it.
The love that both of them have for Pittsburgh and baseball is quite extraordinary. Heather even surprised Rob, a former Marine, with a huge flag made of out hand-dyed baseballs! If all that hard work doesn’t say love, I don’t know what does!
Describe the look, theme, style, and colors of the wedding. What made it unique?
Since Rob is a former Marine and was going to wear his uniform to the wedding, Heather based the colors around his blue uniform. From her bouquets to the bridesmaids dresses, there was a beautiful blue color palette.
I think the fact that they had an “All American” wedding was beautiful. It was on Memorial Day Weekend, with a veteran, and included a long history of the all American sport of baseball, and tied it together with a blue color scheme. It was wonderful shooting this wedding!
