Gritty and tough with a touch of sweetness, this Carrie Furnace engagement session is exactly why we love Pittsburgh so much. This city is a delicious mix of edgy, raw scruff and friendly, hometown vibes. Our dichotomy is what makes us infamous and, in our opinion, so charming. Likewise, Alison and James’s engagement photos are bright and playful smoothly blended with industrial roughness. Kaitlin Powell Photography captured these two flirting, laughing, and being in their element in and around the now-iconic former steel mill. The city we call home is the best of both worlds, and so are these photos.
About the Couple
James and I met our freshman year at Kenyon College, but we were just friends during school. We reconnected at our five year reunion and have been together since! We got engaged in June of 2017, in New York City while on vacation. Our Airbnb in Harlem had an amazing rooftop garden that looked out over downtown Manhattan. James surprised me with a proposal the last morning there!
About the Session
As non-native Pittsburghers, we are so interested in the industrial past of the city. After taking a tour at Carrie Furnace (which was SO fascinating), we loved the idea of incorporating it into the wedding somehow because the space is so beautiful. Having the wedding there would’ve been too challenging, so we decided to do our engagement pictures there instead!
