With the help of exotic flowers, palm leaves, and a bright color palette, this wedding at The Westin Pittsburgh was transformed into a tropical oasis for Shanese and Taj. The couple wanted to celebrate their Caribbean heritages, and since they couldn’t get married in the islands, they decided to bring the islands to Pittsburgh. One Happy Flower Shop used plenty of fresh palms, orchids, and lilies in the flower arrangements, while the ceremony programs, seating chart, dinner menu cards, and reception signs featured a similar floral motif. A mix of satin and sequin linens added an element of luxury to the tables while tons of soft pink uplighting created a romantic ambiance. With a champagne display, mirror signs, donut wall, AND custom marquee letters spelling out the pair’s shared last name, this soiree wasn’t without plenty of trendy details, which were all documented by Amber Marie Photography.
About the Couple
We met at Florida A&M University in 2011 at a mutual friend’s going away party. Apparently we were hanging in the same group of friends but never noticed each other until that day. I was meeting up with my friends at the party and noticed Taj sitting outside with guys we both knew. I fell in love the moment I saw him; it was indeed love at first sight. Soon after, we exchanged numbers and the rest is history.
Taj says that he had the ring for months but couldn’t find the right time to ask for my hand. I was also pregnant during this time. The week after the baby shower, we decided to go out of town for our babymoon. We were in our hotel room, and I decided to take a shower before we headed out for the evening. When I opened the shower door to get out, there he was, asking for my hand in marriage.
About the Wedding
We wanted a romantic night but also something that involved his Bahamian background. We wanted all the tropical flowers and colors, but we wanted guests to feel the love in the room. What I loved about the decor was the way that it incorporated Taj’s and my personalities. We love to have fun with each other but we also love our Caribbean backgrounds. The palm tree leaves, the combination of blue, blush, and dusty rose, the photo booth, the donut wall, and just being with our guests made the night so memorable.
Favorite Moment
My favorite moment was our first look! It was priceless; we fell in love with each other all over again.
