Bridal Accessories: 10 Tips for Choosing Yours

by Burgh Brides September 6, 2017

Your wedding day look doesn’t stop with a dress. You need to think about it from head to toe – the hair, makeup, nails, shoes, and especially the bridal accessories! We’re talking about the veil, hair piece, jewelry, clutch, belt, and possibly even more. We realize that it can be overwhelming; everyone has an opinion, there are endless options on the market, everyone wants to sell you as much as they can, and somewhere in between all of this, the look you envisioned becomes lost. So here are our 10 best tips for bringing your entire wedding day look together!

Bridal Accessories: 10 Tips for Choosing Yours. For more wedding planning tips, visit burghbrides.com!

1.) No one knows you better than you know yourself.

First and foremost, never abandon your personal style. Just because you are getting married doesn’t mean you need to go outside of your everyday taste. If you don’t normally wear a lot of jewelry, don’t start now. If you are more laid back in your everyday look, keep it simple. In most cases, less is more!

2.) When it comes to accessorizing, start with the dress.

That’s where it all begins. If your style is heavily beaded or blinged out, keep your accessories minimal. Choose a plain veil, which is super classy, and forgo the necklace. Now that we think about it, in most cases, forgo the necklace, unless it is a dainty little heirloom that is special to you. If your gown is plain, you have more options: add a belt, do a crown, add some lace or florals into your veil, or keep the entire look chic and simple.

3.) To match or mix metals?

Match your metals. If you are wearing rose gold earrings, you want to keep that rose gold flowing. On the other hand, you can also have a fair mix of metals. Just make sure they are cohesive.

4.) To veil or not to veil?

We always say veil. You are getting married; the veil is a tradition just as much as the gown is. Do it…but…

5.) Choose a simple, little hair accessory for after the ceremony.

When it comes to choosing your veil, always remember you probably will not want to wear it at your reception. With every hug, the veil gets tugged. So having a hair accessory to add for the reception is always a nice touch.

6.) Too much bling is possible.

You want to be careful with over-embellishing. You want the eye to be focused on how beautiful you look in your gown. The gown should always stand out more than the accessories.

7.) Skip the matchy-matchy look.

Lace dress, lace veil, lace accessories…it’s just too much and it takes the focus off of your whole look. Even worse, you’ll get lost in it.

8.) Incorporate something old with something new.

Create a new accessories using a family heirloom veil or lace from your grandma’s dress. This can be very beautiful and it’s one of a kind.

9.) Work accessories into your wedding day budget.

Be prepared to spend money on your accessories, just as you are prepared to spend money on your dress.

10.) Be yourself and be comfortable.

This process should be FUN!  But it can also be daunting, we know. When you look through magazines and on Pinterest and see all of these editorials, remember this – they are not real brides. Most of the time, they are styled, edited shoots, which are great for inspiration but aren’t always realistic.
