Mara and Mitchell’s engagement shoot was inspired by the place where their love story first began – the docks at Washington’s Landing. Thanks to its lush trees and serene waterfront, this location ranks among our top locations for engagement shoots. Captured by photographer Kathryn Hyslop, the group spent the entire day together, from daytime until dusk. The couple posed along the dock and aboard their boat, pausing to pop a bottle of champagne from the bow. They wandered through the park, capturing intimate shots among the trees and tall grasses. After the sunset, the landing provided stunning evening shots, with the city aglow in the background.
About the Couple
Mara and Mitchell’s love story began at Washington’s Landing, where they met one afternoon along the docks. Mara was spending a girl’s day with her mother and a few friends on their family boat when Mitchell, attempting to dock his new boat across from them, experienced some trouble. He and his friend crashed the boat into the dock several times, thoroughly embarrassed. It was so bad that Mara’s mother insisted on helping. As her mother lent a hand, Mara went over to introduce herself. Mara and Mitchell have been inseparable ever since. They got engaged in Èze, France, where Mitch surprised Mara at Château de la Chèvre d’Or. The couple stood on their balcony, overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. Mara recalls, “It was the greatest day of both our lives, and we can’t wait for our Pittsburgh wedding.”

Mara and Mitchell’s first meeting at Washington’s Landing inspired their session, as it’s still a place where they love spending time together. We knew we had to return to where it all began! And when it comes to unique ideas, what’s better than a boat with a skyline view? As their photographer, they trusted me to experiment with a TikTok trend at the time – the water bottle video, but with photos instead. I think it turned out pretty great!
