25 Signs You Need to Hire a Wedding Planner

by Burgh Brides February 9, 2023

Ever feel like the universe is just giving you signs that you need a wedding planner? How about 25 of them? If you are on the fence about hiring one, or even if you’ve never considered a wedding planner before, this list might be enough to convince you. If you feel personally seen by any item in this list, it’s time to hire a wedding planner!

1.) You are overwhelmed by the thought of planning your wedding.

We don’t blame you. It can be A LOT. If you are feeling in over your head, it’s probably because you are.

2.) You have never planned a major event or party before.

Planning a successful event requires a certain way of thinking and asking the right questions that only come with experience.

3.) Budgeting is not your strong suit.

If you have champagne tastes on a beer budget, enlist the help of someone who will keep your spending in check.

4.) You are not organized.

If spreadsheets and color-coded lists make you anxious, let a Type A professional be your wedding project manager.

5.) Vendor contracts and fine print confuse you.

Yes, you should read them. But a planner can help explain the agreements to you in layman’s terms you’ll understand.

6.) You are planning from afar.

Who is going to manage things and scope things out if you live thousands of miles away? Planning is much easier with some boots on the ground.

7.) You don’t have a lot of spare time.

Honestly, planning a wedding can be a full time job in and of itself. And ain’t nobody got time for that.

8.) You are way behind schedule.

A planner will help ensure you stay on track and do what you need to do when you need to do it.

9.) Or you are planning a very short engagement.

Trying to pull together a wedding in just a few months? It might seem extra daunting to you but that’s just another day in the life of a professional planner.

10.) You have ideas but don’t know how to bring them all together.

Planners are also design wizards and will make a beautiful, cohesive style out of your hodge podge mess of randomly saved Pins.

11.) Or you don’t have any ideas.

If you are having a serious case of designer’s block and haven’t the faintest idea of what you want, a planner can help inspire you.

12.) Your venue requires that you bring in everything.

Blank canvas venues are great in that they can be transformed into almost anything. But they also require a lot more work that you don’t want to have to manage. Trust us.

13.) Your wedding has a lot of moving parts.

If your celebration is multi-faceted or spans the course of several days and/or locations, the complexity ante just got upped. Unless you have figured out how to clone yourself, leave management of a complex event to the pros.

14.) You don’t actually enjoy the planning process.

And guess what…that is ok! It’s a ton of work and stress and not everyone thrives under those kinds of conditions.

15.) You don’t want to have to lift a finger on your wedding day.

You should not be moving tables into place or packing up boxes at the end of the night. Your only job that day is to sip champagne, smile, and say I do!

16.) You want someone in your corner.

A wedding planner is your advocate and will act on your behalf as they ensure your big day wishes are carried out.

17.) Wedding planning is affecting your relationships or mental health.

If you and your partner are fighting over the wedding or if you are losing sleep at night, it’s time to call in reinforcements.

18.) You are having trouble researching and differentiating vendors.

A planner can make personalized vendor recommendations that are tailored to your specific wedding day needs and budget. They’ll pair you with the right people for YOU.

19.) You are not detail oriented.

The bad news is that weddings have a lot of details. The good news is that planners live for them. If you aren’t into (or simply don’t care about) the nitty gritty, why not hire someone who does?

20.) You are worried about troublesome family members or guests.

A planner knows how to handle an unruly groomsman who has had way too much to drink or an overbearing aunt who cares way too much about seeing her lady locks on the cookie table with tact, grace, and respect.

21.) Your venue doesn’t have a coordinator.

Without a venue coordinator or a wedding planner, who is going to take care of anything from making sure the florist arrives to packing everything up at the end of the night? You need someone in charge of execution.

22.) You are relying on another vendor (like your photographer) to help you research and plan.

They are likely just helping you to be nice but this is not their job. Stop taking advantage of their kindness and invest in a planner instead.

23.) You want your wedding to be unique and unlike all the others your friends and family have seen.

Wedding planners have literally seen it all, which means they know how to create something different. Not to mention they stay on top of the latest and greatest wedding trends!

24.) You want to be fully present on the wedding day.

With a wedding planner at the helm, you can literally be a guest at your own wedding. You can focus on the fact that you are GETTING MARRIED and rest easy knowing that the details are being expertly managed by someone else.

25.) You are getting married.

Because we are firm believers that every wedding could benefit from the expertise and experience of a professional planner!
