2016 Pantone Colors of the Year Inspiration

by Burgh Brides January 7, 2016

Affiliate-LinkA few weeks ago, Pantone shocked the world by choosing not one but two colors of the year for 2016…rose quartz and serenity!

Last year’s pick, marsala, took the world by storm.  It was literally everywhere!  And rightfully so; it’s a beautiful, rich shade.  However, 2016 is shaping up to be a bit softer.  Pantone recognized the world’s “yearning for reassurance and security”.  They describe this as the reason for the selections that “demonstrate an inherent balance…as well as a soothing sense of order and peace”.  Pantone goes on to say that, “Rose Quartz is a persuasive yet gentle tone that conveys compassion and a sense of composure. Serenity is weightless and airy, like the expanse of the blue sky above us, bringing feelings of respite and relaxation even in turbulent times.”

Who knew so much thought went into choosing the Colors of the Year?!  While I don’t know much about color theory, I do know these two shades would look extraordinary at a wedding.  Remember my pale pink and pale blue inspiration post back in April?  I was so ahead of the times.  Well, today I’m back with even more ways you can incorporate these colors into your wedding!

Dresses
Your bridesmaids will look ravishing in either of these colors.  In my opinion, light, airy fabrics, like chiffon and tulle, embrace the essence of serenity and rose quartz best.  If you consider yourself a bold bride, opt for a blush pink or ice blue wedding dress!  Colorful bridal gowns hit the scene a few years ago and they have continued to be a hot trend ever since!

Flowers
While there aren’t very many blue flowers, luckily there are a ton of pink ones.  Opt for bouquets and centerpieces that are mostly pink but accented with a hint of blue.  Or incorporate serenity using non-floral elements, like ribbon.  Thinks peonies, dahlias, garden roses, and hydrangeas.  This palette is a florists dream!

Makeup
Stay with me on this one.  I’m not saying to channel the 80s and wear blue eyeshadow or anything!  BUT a soft, natural look with rosy cheeks and a pink lip does a class bride make!  Maybe for this aspect of your wedding day, it’s better to pretend like rose quartz is the only color of the year 😉

Accessories
From your garter to your shoes, it’s easy to use serenity on your wedding day as your something blue.  Rose gold is also a really hot look this year.  Look for earrings or a bracelet that uses this metal and you can wear both colors at once!

Menswear
Real mean wear pink.  Or light blue.  Either of these shades can work well with a navy or khaki suit or gray tux.  Look for ties or pocket squares that use rose quartz or serenity and complete the look with a coordinated boutonniere.

Signature Drink
Whip up a Pretty in Pink cocktail or almost anything with blue curacao in it to infuse serenity and rose quartz into your bar offerings.  Time to pop the pink champagne and dance on the tables!

Paper Goods
Your save the dates and invitations help set the tone for your entire wedding style.  Look for a design that features beautiful florals or water colors for an easy way of using this year’s hottest colors.  Burgh Brides Vendor Guide Members Blush Paper Co. and Diva Gone Domestic both offer suites that might suit your fancy!

Sweets
I bet rose quartz and serenity taste as good as they look.  From cakes to macarons, and every sweet in between, look for tasty treats in these two shades to bring Pantone’s Colors of the Year to your wedding’s final course.

Some aren’t wild about rose quartz and serenity.  They say Pantone’s picks resemble a gender reveal or a baby shower.  If you’re one of those people, remember that Pantone never said to only use these two shades!  As a matter of fact, they even offered up a whole slew of multi-colored palettes that incorporate rose quartz and serenity with many other shades.  As you can see, these colors are very versatile and work well with other pastels, jewel tones, and even earth tones!
