Purple Wagon Designs

Wedding paper is SO important.  It's the first glimpse guests have of your wedding style and it is one of the few details that you can weave into just about every aspect of your big day to create a cohesive, consistent look.  That's why you want a design that is as special as your love is.  And with Purple Wagon Designs, that's exactly what you'll get.  Owner Kimberly prides herself on creativity, purposeful and functional pieces, and exceptional service – “paper perfection” as she puts it and I'd have to agree.  Not only can she piece together colors, lines, fonts, and/or patterns to create a suite that is all YOU, but she does so in a way that takes the stress out of this one aspect of wedding planning.  When you work with her, you'll actually be EXCITED about save the dates, invites, thank you notes, and everything in between, including her incredibly popular hand-lettered chalkboard signs!  Simple and chic, rustic and organic, glamorous and bold, Purple Wagon has a look for every style.  And if she doesn't, Kim will create one just for you.  Either way, you'll be so happy you hired her!

Tell me a little bit about your business!
Hi!  I'm Kimberly, the owner and head designer of Purple Wagon Designs.  Purple Wagon is a Pittsburgh-based invitation design company that specializes in unique wedding papers like save the dates, invitations, programs, place cards, table numbers, thank you notes, etc.  We even do hand-written chalkboard signs for weddings and events. (That's one of our favorite things!)

I started my own graphic and website design business in 2011 called Design Intervention.  Five years later, I decided to branch out and start Purple Wagon Designs to focus on my love of personal stationery and weddings.  In 2016, Purple Wagon celebrated SEVEN years in business!  Each year, I've grown more and more, which is amazing and wonderful – I love being able to help couples with the stationery for their weddings!

What makes your work unique?  Why should brides and grooms hire you?
I'm passionate about what I do and I'm committed to making my clients' visions a reality!  I take pride in my personalized approach to taking the stress out of designing wedding stationery.  I'll answer questions, make suggestions, and keep them on track.  There's already SO much to deal with when planning a wedding – I do whatever I can to make this part fun and painless!

What is your ideal client like?
I love working with people who are as excited about paper and their invitations as I am!  It's great when they have an idea of what they're looking for before we meet, but it's not necessary – some people need more guidance, and that's ok, too!  Anyone who is fun, easy-going, and excited about their wedding is someone I'd enjoy working with.

What is your approach to design?
I love to create “brands” and give everything a cohesive feel – from the save the date and the invitations to the ceremony programs, reception items, and even the thank you notes.  I love pops of color and patterns…used with restraint.  I believe form and function go hand-in-hand; that a beautiful invitation is useless if you can't read it.  Above all, I put my clients first, and make sure that whatever the final result is, it's something that THEY are happy with.

Do couples choose from design templates or can you customize one based on their tastes?
Both, actually!  Purple Wagon is proud to offer an array of wedding invitation designs that are as special as our clients!  All of the designs in the Purple Wagon Collection are available with customization of colors and text to fit each client's wedding at no extra charge.

Some couples like my style and are excited to work with me but are looking for something completely new, which I can do, too – I love custom projects!

Is there a particular wedding style for which your products are best suited?
I have designed invitations for every style of wedding – romantic and charming, classy and sophisticated, rustic and vintage, etc.  The Purple Wagon Collection covers a wide range of themes and everything can be customized to make it more authentic to each couple.

What is the proofing process like?
I start with the invitation itself: I put together an initial design and send it to the couple to review.  I'll make necessary changes based on their feedback and send it back to them.  We go back and forth like that until the design is just right, and then I incorporate that into the other items so that the entire invitation – as well as any other stationery the couple wants – has a cohesive look and feel…like their own Wedding Brand!  Hard-copy proofs are available when requested, however most people are comfortable with just a digital proof.  That makes the final reveal of the whole package even more exciting, too!

What is the typical turn-around time?
Typical turn-around time is 6 – 8 weeks.  It can be done quicker if necessary to fit in with the couple's timeline, but that adds stress and takes away some of the fun.  Of course, if they go with a design from my collection, that is a quicker process than a tailor-made design, which has more back and forth during the design phase.  And it's never too early to get in touch for a consultation!
