I think Sky's the Limit Photography summed it up best when they said, “A love of details and portraits with a knack for getting emotional photojournalistic shots fuse to really tell the story of our clients' wedding days.” Couldn't have said it better myself. Ed Coll, owner of Sky's the Limit, took a love of travel and photography and turned it into one of the best wedding businesses in PGH. He's skilled at capturing unassuming, heartwarming moments, but also loves details as much as you do. Since your wedding day will be chock full of both, it's sort of the perfect match. His creative perspective coupled with your unique love story and all of the big and small ways you'll bring it to life on your wedding day is a winning combination in the form of fine art, photojournalistic images. But with Sky's the Limit, you also get a FUN experience! They're knowledgeable, love helping their clients with planning, and they're all about really living joyfully in the moment. Sound like you? Tell me a little bit about your business!
For over a decade, Sky’s the Limit has been providing wedding photography services in Pittsburgh and all over the country. Growing up in a family that ran a travel business, I was fortunate enough to travel the country and see most of the world and all of the beauty it holds. This lead me to my passion for photography. My love of photographing people in their element translated perfectly to becoming a wedding photographer, capturing the important moments of the day as they unfold. As I’ve built Sky’s the Limit, my passion has become my career and it has allowed me to use my unique experience and perspective to create some truly emotive, beautiful wedding images.
What makes your work unique? Why should brides and grooms hire you?
Our work is a mix of photojournalism and fine art, blended together to really nail every moment of the day. A love of details and portraits with a knack for getting emotional photojournalistic shots fuse to really tell the story of our clients' wedding days. But our work isn't all the makes us unique; we firmly believe in not just providing photographs but an entire experience. We are there to be in our clients' corner for the day, from providing carefully curated lists of wedding vendors during the planning process, carrying trains, and grabbing drinks. It's not just about the photography; we want to do everything in our power to make sure your wedding day goes smoothly. It's this dedication and passion for making sure our clients have the best day ever that helps us build a relationship with them. Our days are filled with laughter and we often walk away from wedding days feeling we have just made two new friends.
What is your ideal client like?
Our ideal client is someone who shares our vision and who prioritizes photography on their wedding day. They want to have fun, but they also have a strong vision for what they want their day to look like. They've got a creative streak and incorporate a lot of little details and sentimental items throughout their wedding day. They laugh a lot, often at our shenanigans during sessions. They trust us and our vision, and roll with it when we do something crazy for photos. They aren't afraid to brave the elements and run out in the snow for an epic photo, throw on a pair of flip flops to trudge through the mud to get to an amazing location, or even jump into the ocean in their wedding attire for a once in a lifetime shot.
Can you help with creating the wedding day timeline?
If a wedding planner isn’t involved, a lot of times timelines for the day can be really difficult to figure out. With over 11 years of weddings under our belts, we love being able to give input on how to time out your days and help decide if a first look is right for you. We love when clients make wedding photography a high priority, so including something like a first look to ensure enough portrait time or giving us a call to chat about sunset photos and timing for bridal portraits is a great way to make sure you get the most out of your time with us on your wedding day.
How would you describe your photography style?
We mix photojournalism with a fine art approach. While we love the little details and gorgeous golden hour portraits, the shot of mom crying while you walk down the aisle or your best man giving a gut busting speech is just as cherished in our eyes. We always have two shooters at our weddings and it creates such a great narrative, being able to capture the day with two completely different perspectives. We like to create images where the personalities of our couples shine through; they help visualize the love between two people. We try to capture all of the classic shots but with a fun modern twist.
What techniques do you used to help clients feel comfortable with you and in front of the camera?
To put it simply, we are kind of ridiculous. We joke, we laugh, we demonstrate poses for our clients. There is lots of witty (and sometimes cheesy) banter. We have been known to roll around on the ground, climb walls, and stand on cars for shots. It makes the whole experience fun, and always seems to keep our clients at ease in front of the camera. We like when our couples talk to each other and have a natural conversation during portrait time, making each other laugh and bringing out natural expressions.
What emotions do you think your images evoke?
Pure joy. We really try to keep things fun, capturing lots of laughter. There's a huge range of wedding day emotions and we want to capture every tear and every smile, with the goal of when you flip through your images five, ten, twenty five years down the road, that they bring a smile to your face. All of the memories of that awesome day flood your mind and for a brief moment you get to relive on of the best days of your life.
What is your approach to editing? What is the typical turn-around time for images?
We've got a clean, colorful, film inspired edit and have an in-house editor working on images in order to make sure everything is consistent and our weddings are ready to be delivered three weeks after the wedding. We deliver our wedding images in both online galleries and we send out a USB of images so that you can share the images easily with family and friends.
What other items do you offer?
We offer a photobooth, which is an absolute blast. It includes tons of props and fun attendants, along with prints for our clients AND their guests! We also offer gorgeous custom albums, either leather or linen bound designed in house by our editor.
