Laid back, charming, and romantic…this rustic wedding is as sweet as can be. Megan and James both love the outdoors, and they wanted an al fresco affair with an indoor option. The Pittsburgh Botanic Garden was the perfect spot for their big day celebration. The venue itself inspired the rest of the wedding's style. The garden feel was brought alive with tons of fresh, wild-inspired flowers and greenery while the color palette was kept light with pinks, white, and neutral tones. Wooden details were woven in with a hand-lettered signs, laser cut table numbers and sweetheart chair decor, and a tree slice cake stand. What I loved most didn't include any of these though! Instead, what got my heart pumping was:
- The naked wedding cake. This trend is huge but what made this one extra special is the fact that it was made by the mother of the bride! Couple that with tons of cookies and cupcakes baked by family and friends and this wedding had a very sweet (pun intended) ending.
- Live wedding art. Jay Flores lent his talents to Megan and James by creating a painting of their wedding day right before their guests' eyes. This is SUCH a cool way to provide entertainment and capture such special memories!
- The reception band. Speaking of entertainment, that evening's was provided by BiggDaddy & the Mudcatz…James's dad's band! How fun is it that the father of the groom was responsible for having the dance floor packed all night?!
Airy, soft, and just downright lovely, this wedding day was documented by none other than Leeann Marie, Wedding Photographers. I for one am totally in love. I'm sure you will be too.
You know you want to check out this awesome footage from So Fresh Films too! Not only was it gorgeous, but this wedding looks like it was a total blast!
From the bride…
When and how did you two meet?
We met freshman year of college in 2003! We dated on and off, went our separate ways, and then reconnected in 2011 and rest is history. 🙂
Juicy details on the proposal, please! Where, when, how?
We were getting ready for a trip to Punta Cana with our best friends to celebrate us all turning 30 that year. His thought was to do it on the beach there. Instead, the night before we left, he (looking super anxious and nervous) greeted me in the hallway and said, “I can't wait any longer. Will you marry me?!” Super sweet and I was happy he did it in our home. The added bonus was we had no service in Punta Cana so we were able to call all of our family and friends before we left and then had an awesome week celebrating!
Describe the wedding. The look, theme, style, colors, etc.
We wanted our wedding to be all about family, friends, awesome music, and food. We love the outdoors so knew we wanted it to be indoor/outdoor and laid back. Pittsburgh Botanic Garden was perfect for that!
What inspired your vision?
I love light and airy bridal looks, so knew I wanted the day's colors to reflect that with light pinks, whites, and neutrals. Also, with it being in June and at the Botanic Garden, that inspired the romantic and rustic feel.
Bride to Bride
What advice would you give to other Burgh Brides planning their big day?
Don't stress the small stuff. The forecast was 100% chance of thunderstorms for our wedding day, which resulted in us changing our layout several times and some panic. Day of, it ended up being 84 (a very hot day!) and sunny – no rain at all! Don't stress over what you can't control. Make sure you have an awesome photographer, invest in a videographer, and have awesome food and you will have the best day that is captured perfectly for years to come. I also wouldn't have been as relaxed without my day of coordinator. She was amazing and made me feel completely stress-free!
Any must haves, must dos, or can't live withouts? Anything you would do differently?
I wouldn't change a thing! Just wish we could do it every weekend!
